    Default RA25 brake problems!

so the time has come where I need someone who knows what they are talking about. ie... anyone but me.

OK so just put new wheels on the car... and in doing so decided to do the bearings, replace the rotors with new ones and also the calipers needed reconditioning. They have new seals and new pistons, and have been cleaned up. Before I did this there was a groaning/rubbing noise coming from the fornt right wheel. After I had the calipers reconditioned this stopped. I've probably done 200 kms since then and the noise has returned. Its present at low speeds, when taking off from stand still, stops when I put my foot slightly on the break pedal and is VERY much louder when I turn to a full left lock, however doesnt do it when I turn right. I think its the calipers rubbing, but why only when I turn left and how do I fix it, having done everything I can to make them good as new I have run out of ideas.... ???? any ideas would be really appreciated

remove wheel and rotate hub, check if the caliper, brake disc etc. is fouling on anything.

if the noise is louder when u are turning a corner maybe your hub is floating?

take hub off and see if there is any wear on the stub axle

also after doing hub bearings always retorque the hub nut after a few hundred kms

EDIT: also did u clean and relube the slides on the calipers when they were rebuilt to prevent binding?

if you could pinpoint exactly where its binding it might help narrow down the cause

    diagram:

    make sure:
    5 - disc brake guide
    6 - cylinder support sprin
    7 - clip
are installed the right way around.

    5 - I've seen installed upside down
6 - not installed properly prevents the caliper from being square with the brake disc. This can cause a tilted brake pad wear pattern.

I also recommend you install a "disc brake quiet" compound behind the brake pads to dampen the vibrations. You can buy the product from your local auto parts store.

did these calipers come on any australian delivered cars that you could compare it to?

i'd be keen to find out myself, as i have the same brakes on one of my modded corollas.

    thanks,
