If you have a worn factory LSD you'll need to send it to a diff shop, unless you already have experience rebuilding diffs (I'm guessing not). Given its age there's a good chance the clutches will need replacing in which case a TrueTrac swap would be more economical and effective.

Either that or just live with it. The 5M-E isn't known for its ability to fry tyres.

MA61 LSD,s are shit full stop , not enough clutch area inside them , they have splined side gears(not the axel spline) to take a splined steel clutch plate but theres no splined plate just spacers.
Only RA40 GT lsd centres have the splined clutch plates and are not made anymore
When you use one in a live axel diff, even a good condition one they single leg sometimes.
I feel they are better suited to IRS setups as the bog down of rear helps the LSD work better.

its LSD , i should of known, because it always leaves a pair on the grass out the front yard, steep driveway+reversing=lots of wheelspin at times, but i was cleaning the rear cover and boom, big LSD sticker on it!!

will Saf-Xa be ok to put back in it??

yes should do fine. I think the previous owner might of said its an open diff so you wouldn't get your hopes up and then realise how shit the lsd's are in toyota's...

i put Castrol LSX90 in it, it locks up and bit more now, but its still beyond its use by date, it goes from LSD to open when it feels like, its quite amusing!!!

arse and a half to get the filler bolt out, ended up stripping it a bit aswell!!!!

    thanxs guys!
