Default Just a thought on the mx83 manual pedal box issues...

    Hey guys,

I have read a fair few threads in regards to the pedal boxes being installed into mx83. Some of the issues I have read about include not having enough pedal throw, resulting in welding nuts and spacers onto the pedal box...

On my own car, I am running a pedal box that fits in the stock holes but as with you guys - doesnt feel like it has enough throw on the clutch. I have also noticed the bolts stick excessivly into the engine bay side. After pulling a r31 skyline pedal box out, I noticed they have a spacer stock standard. Is it possible the Toyotas are supposed to be running this same setup? It would space the box back giving more throw and it would explain - in my case - why I have so much thread on the engine bay side.

I know its a long shot but I thought it was worth mentioning. Does anyone have any factory diagrams for the common pedal setups being used in mx83's?

    Cheers Dan.

    Yeah, its called a GX81...

    Reference

When you try and adapt something from a different model, you are always going to have issues unless you work out a way to copy the setup from the donor vehicle.

Common pedal arrangements in use are:
A70/Z20 - claimed to fit 'easily' but requires drilling the firewall to make the pedal/MC vertical again and there are also issues with travel (thread here ). There is a Cressida enthusiast that runs a company up here that know what mods are required to make it work properly.
JZX90 - been said to fit but i am not sure on the exact details. The Real Roadrunner was the one that suggested this so maybe PM him for details.

Have you got any pics of your setup and where is it from?

Not atm no, but I could get some eh. By the looks of that picture - there is a spacer on the bolts, on the back of the pedal box. I'm guessing this spacer is detachable like on the skyline and that mine hasnt been given to me? Who knows.

I found RA60 pedal, bracket and master were a good starting point, after a bit of love with the grinder and welder.

Not to be a prick, but thats all i seem to find on the pedal mods. Not many people have sat down and taken photos or even drawn out what to do. I have seen some bad paint efforts regarding the modification to the top bracket on the A70/Z20 pedal box but then no one seems to mention that there are further issues with travel.

Im not going to try and stuff around adapting something that wasnt meant to be there. My GX81 clutch and brake pedal boxes are on their way from Japan...

Could I be a pain and ask you to put up a picture when you get it? Not to help me so much but to put an end to silly threads like this one haha. I guess a measurement of the spacer would help though.

Its going to be a while (its in transit on a ship) but will definitely put some up. Ive been helped out by so many people that i cant wait to return the favour. And while many say they are running a manual Cressida, i havent seen much detail at all on the conversion itself.

Know of any details on how this can be done and for how much? You interested for something?

I will gladly model it up in Solidworks if i can get a recent copy that works with Vista which can be used for reference in the future too.

I would be if i had a mx83 and no i dont know where this can be done. Depending on how complex the design it.

Ask the *x8* boys and gals to see if they are. I guess most of them just like their boring autos.

Not me, and i didnt want to muck around with adapting something where a factroy part is available, regardless of how rare they are.

big_zop - easiest cure to going manual is exactly as you're doing. GX81 clutch and brake pedals. Just make sure you bolt in the top support before you secure the bolts from the master. Otherwise shit sits wierdly. Pedal throw seems fine in my cressy.

GX81 clutch and master pedals CAN be bought new from toyota or most importers can actually get em too... Will update post with toyota part numbers once i find em again...
