But seriously, if you really want to know, there aren't that many bolt holding on the rear cover... and then you will know for sure

heyas,
I have a p-type ma61, originally had an LSD, but has been changed to an open (as i was told by previous owner) but i have my doubt of whether it is open or LSD, because, at low speeds i cant get the diff to 'LSD' but i can bust it around corner as if it was an Lsd, i can also make it step out like an lsd from a standstill....i think it may be a worn out clutch-type lsd, but is there anyway of confirming this?? i have a steep driveway and accidently baked it up going up it after stalling it (dumbass) and it left 2 tracks, thats wat made me think today that it was LSD, i have taken it out in the wet and only got the inside to bake up..
which again makes me think that it is a worn out clutch type, any advice on getting the true story??
i dont want to open it up either, and, have been told that jacking it up and spinning the wheels doesnt work if it is clutch type!
thanxs

mine did the same thing, i had a stock clutch type lsd and yeah in the wet the one wheel would just go crazy which really pissed me off... But in the dry with 4 people in the car it left 2 black marks on the road and stepped out. i gatherd that my lsd was worn out or just not that great, so i replaced it with a proper one![]()
i don't think its that easy dude, depends on the equipment u have but id say u would have to take the whole diff out, drain oil, check, seal, thread lock and torque bolts up etc, replace oil and shit...then put the complete diff back in lol. id say around 1-2h of stuffing around.Originally Posted by rob
its an f series diff, u take off the back plate, look, put plate back on and fill with oil, thats it.Originally Posted by chaserbuddy

never said it was hard, just not as easy as rob said...

i know i know, ive just blown everyone's mind stating something based on fact and experience.... especially in the tech section and especially during school holidays![]()
anyways arguments like this have no place in the tech section so i'll leave it at that.
Thanks to Wilbo for the pics too.

Just a word of warning, before you remove the cover, make sure you can remove the filler plug/bolt.
Its a prick of a bolt and if you can't remove it, then you can't easily refill it.

i have VMX80 for the gearbox and a bottle of SAF-XA 80w-140 Limited Slip oil (if LSD), if it aint, wat do i put in it???

thats not the same type of scenario...Originally Posted by rob
wat would be is:
i just bought this 2nd hand fridge, there is a possibility that there is tomato sauce inside it, but i dont want to open it up, etc.
because i didnt change the diff, previous owner did, he told me it was open, but for reasons listed in first post i think its LSD!
anyways!
if it is clutch type LSD, how would i go about shimming it up/tightening it up/living with it!
