For specific details on the construction.... I'm pretty sure Zaklee will likely be happy to tell you them.

About running no cover...... it all depends on the local conditions... and laws. I like running the covers because they do provide a cleaner looking finished appearence. For the most part... I run an OEM cover... and when I went to a show... I'd break out a "windowed" cover.....

    It sure is!

    I got defected for it...

The officers explaination to me, was of course safety related, I.e hand getting in there with it running, and also the "chance" of something getting in there like a rock and in his words "blowing up the engine"

I swear the way officers say that it sounds like the engine is TNT lol.

But that was just my experience

I guess accessory belts should be illegal then, too. OK, a rock won't blow your engine immediately on those (only after the engine overheats), but the hand thing still applies.

there should be some kind of cover to prevent people accidentally touching it.

in the case of the timing belt covers, you MUST have them, as it is easy for a dumb mechanic (or an unlucky person) to put their hand on the front of the engine when running and lose all their fingers... even if it happens like "person overbalances while looking at your awesome engine, puts hand out to steady themselves.. and find hand is bloodied stump"
having the cover there constitutes a safety device..

as for accessory belts, they are usually lower and you would have to try a LOT harder to get your hand jammed in them...
the same goes for high mounted superchargers (on V8's).. belt must be shelided from dimwits accidentally touching them

and while it is very unlikely a rock will manage to find it's way up to the exposed belt.. it is still possible
    group buy eh?

I'd never run without one, the places I have found gravel in my engine bay after khanas and track days is unbelievable.

Dragging this back to the top.

Anyone order one (or more) of these covers yet?

Got word there is a car in a local workshop here that might have one but haven't been around to see it yet.
A 20V one would still be nice too

Talking Re: Clear 4AG timing pulley cover!

I know a guy who turned a blind eye for a moment and his fingers got &$%&$ in the RB26 cam gears and timing belt.
He was in hospital for a while. I didn't see the damages or what's left but DAMN !

I have mine running without the cover.

Uncanny coincidence: just heard someone I know on another forum had an off day last week, and somehow absentmindedly forgot the engine was running, while checking tension on the fanbelt...

He found the belt loose but his finger suffered the same fate He broke it, top severed, many stitches etc... and he touched only the outside of said belt... it'll heal but he's not happy =)

I'd say "couldn't happen to me", but you know... I think he'd have said the same.

Ah well, back to timing covers.
