hi guys,
I'm looking for an engineer to get a certificate for an engine swap in vic that will do me a good price,
cheers,
joe
If it moves and it shouldn't use duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it should use WD40.
4AGZE powered AE86
SR5 dual cab Hilux
265 powered VJ Valiant Charger
They seem to be all very $$$ in vic. It does also depend on what they have to do like if you have other mods etc they have to check .
The braeside one is about $700 , Archi in bayswater about $750 . These were for engine /brake conversions only.
anyone else care to share??
Dave
What sort of conversion we talking about? Because if its one with lots of custom fab/custom mounts etc etc it doesn't sound that dear at least to NSW standards.
I want to do your engine conversion wiring for you, PM me.
Yup, I got quoted the flat rate of $800, but it was clear that he didn't want to do any work for that except sign the paper.
If he had to test the brakes, it was going to be another $800. If he had to test emissions, i'm not sure how much that would have been.
It was clear that unless the complete front and rear brake setup (i mean COMPLETE - discs, calipers, m/c, bias valves etc) came from the engine donor car (or a heavier and more powerful car), then he had run it through his $800 test. Any mix-and-match upgrades (like nearly all of the common ones for our cars) would need to be tested.
He also wasn't willing to make ANY judgements based on experience... eg: everyone knows that the Jap emission standards of 1989 would far exceed those in Australia in 1977. But he needed me to find/pay someone who could officially provide that in writing.
Oh, and he wanted all the other crap replaced, regardless of current condition... new fuel filler, new seatbelts etc.
Needless to say, i'm still looking for someone who still makes sure the car is safe and legal, but isn't so anal.

you guys get anally raped ... in Qld a Mod plate (engineer certifies the changes, gives you a small blue plate to affix somewhere in engine bay and a paper certificate for DoT) is ~$120
No arguments here...Originally Posted by thechuckster

I got Frank Fordham to do mine, looks like its going to cost me about a grand, thats for 4 consultations, certs for a 1g conversion, brake upgrade, half cage and new gauge's. wasnt cheap, but i choose to live and victoria and surprise surprise i gotta pay $$$$ to do anything car related.
I went through the emmisions dramas, what you need is a compliance plate from a grey import ga70/gz20 or to pay someone who had a compliance license for them to give you a plate/proof of emmissions(this also means all engine parts/exhaust intake must be standard, any changes require a fresh emissions test.)
If you cant find this youll have to get your car tested at a cost a of about $500. dont fail the test cause if you do its abother $500 to get retested.
If you cant be fagged dealing with emmisions go straight lpg, bypasses all the red tape, and you can do what you want with turbos, coolers exhausts etc. etc.
Just my 2 cents
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.

I am interested to hear how guys get on with the different (Vic) engineers,
I haven't picked who I'm going to yet, but talked to some people who have been through it.
LPG has been on my mind for a long time now.
its just a 4age into a ta22 swap, and i think there was an ra40 strut swap
