Could it be for the recirculating overflow bottle, although the only ones I've seen come off the front of the engine?

Had a look at my motor at home.
On Celsior and UZS131 Crown motors its capped off.
On Soarer motors it doesn't exist.

Weird, mine had a pipe on it and in the front cut it appeared to run up into the windscreen wiper area. But whatever it went to had been removed.
It was from a Celsior

My VVTi engine came out of a celsior - it didn't have the pipe where yours does, but it did have it in an intermediate pipe in the heater hose, although the tap off the intermediate pipe was blocked off...
Maybe it's something for the rear heater?
Joel, if your half cut has the recirculating overflow bottle connection at the front of the engine, then this one isn't it

Celsior's don't have rear heaters, only rear aircon.
I'll check my Celsior to see if its using it or not.
The motor I have spare I presume is Celsior, but it could be a UZS141 Crown.
