6M + 2nd hand exedy clutch Question.

hey guys.

putting togeather my freshly mechind flywheel with this (pretty decent condition) 2nd hand exedy HD clutch.

my question is does anyone have the tourque spec for the pressure plate bolts?

as i didnt get it with the box or instructions (being 2nd hand and all...) stock is 13 ft-lb's or 18N-m and is it fine to used the same bolts from the old PP. when i installed the clutch last time i snaped one undoing them so i went to the bolt shop and got them matched... only these were a higher grade...

anyway...
any help is much appericated.

Yep wont be a problem using the old bolts.The torque specs sound bout right but if ya have done it a few times ya seem to get the feel of how far you can go.
Also when tightening them I always tighten them in a few turns then go to the opposite side so the the pressure plate pulls in evenly.

yeah, thats what i usally tend to do to get an even clamp.

might give exedy a call tomorrow to see jsut what they spec for it... was going to put it in tonight but seams i have a bit more work than just fixing a clutch :S

Not very tight is the answer.

I just use some loctite 262 and my 3/8 drive rachet, but only use half the handle.

I've snapped a couple in previous years doing them up too tight.

well same... thats why i got the new bolt... ended up being a higher grade as well... 8.8 rather than 4 i think?

never heard of using loctite before... anyone else do this?

nope, i just tighten them up like spark plugs...plus a little more.

Loctite is not required, its just something I do to all high speed rotating parts near my legs.

Kinda like a 30 second - 30 cent insurance policy.

Toyota use grade 7 bolts for all pressure plates , ive pulled a few clutchs out to find people have used the lower 4 grade bolts
Any bolt shops 8.8 grade is even better.

The make/brand of the clutch doesn't matter at all if it is using the same type/size bolts. The torque is bolt dependent if it isn't holding a breakable/crushable piece.
It'd be fine to reuse the old bolts, IF you knew that they hadn't been misused/overtightened/stretched, but you've got proof of over-tightening from the breakage.
IIRC & not dreaming, the fastener/bolt sites say that an under-torqued/un-stretched one may loosen when it is a high grade/strength/spec but under-tightened to
the lower OEM bolt torque.

pressure plate bolts do up like cruzida says... thats the way i done mine. With flywheel bolts first check if the bolt holes on the crank go all the way through into the engine or if they are blind holes. (on the 1jz they go all the way through) if they go all the way through then use a thread sealent. loctite also stock this stuff. if you dont oil can leak past the flywheel bolts.
