2jzgte is just a little to big to be legal

I have just completed my 28, 1GGTE and i like it but want more, where do we go from here.
so we have gone from 1ggte/ze to 1JZ GTE -
Going from W5X's to R154's? pros and cons?
1JZGTE VVTI - looks to be the next in line? pro and cons?
2JZ GTE - is it too big to fit or be legal?
What else is out there that is becoming affordable?
Cheers Rosie.

It depends on what exactly you want "more" of.
If it's just outright gunt then 1JZ is the legal answer.
If you want better handling and balance then a nice V6 conversion would be the go and a 2GR would probably have as much if not more power than your 1G.
If more revs is more your cup of tea then a Beams 3S and six speed would be a good answer.
If you're looking to be different a turbo 3RZ would be cool as well.
this would be the direction I'd go if I had the option.Originally Posted by Joshstix
or if the 2GR is still too new and expensive an engine to obtain, you can look into the 3.0L V6 options of 1MZ-FE or 3VZ-FE
All the motors discussed have a 'similar' level of technology (4 valve/cyl, DOHC, EFI etc), so the progression would lie in three main areas.
- Increase the capacity for some easy power, at the expense of doing the conversion over again. The 1J would be as big as you'd legally go, 1UZTT would be the ultimate if legality wasn't an issue
- keep the capacity, but improve performance of the 2L. Since you've already got a 2L... i can't see that much advantage in a 3S (yeah I know, it is a nice motor). I guess you'd be looking at building your 1G with forgies, rods, a GT35, big cams and an ECU. 6Boosts stroker kit comes to mind![]()
- keep the capacity and factory reliability, but improve the weight distribution. These guys mentioning a V6 are probably right-on there. But if you're THAT critical of the handling... you shouldn't be driving a 70's car
That's all I can think of.

Well i'm sorta happy with the 1G, but pumping another 5 grand into it to make it great is not worth it. A 1JZ vvti all bolted up and driving will cost about $4000, therfore I make more power and have another $1000 to upgrade.
As for the 3S options and the V6 i guess it depends on what u want it for.
Considering this started out as an 18R rebulid and a tidy up, i guess u have to know where to stop or you would never finish,
Oh and damn u Stidnam for putting the 1J idea in my head.
Cheers Rosie.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 1J is a great idea.Originally Posted by Rosie
But do you think a stock 1J will really outperform a $5000 1G?
considering i have clocked up a total of 9 km on my 1G and been for a drive in a 1Jvvti once, i am not saying one way or the other but i would hazard a guess at
spending $5000 on a 1j vvti compared to $5000 on a 1G i think the VVTi would win ( mounted in early celica) without a doubt.
i tell u what-u buy force feds 1G and ill buy the 1J vvti ( on a 5k budget) and we will know for sure and have a semi legit reason for doing it - ill tell my misses it's research.

Nah man, that's not where I was going...
I thought you said it would cost you 4k to get you up and running with a 1J VVTi into your car. So I was comparing a 1G with $5k mods, vs a 1J with $1k mods.
Obviously a 1J with 5k of mods is going to kill a $5k 1G
I'm still up for the research though(sounds like I could be starting as soon as next week
)
i meant including engine as well -
personally id prefer to spend 1000 on extra for the 1j than 4000 extra building a 1g, they are just gettin too old - nice engines tho.

Hi,
You could of bored/stroked an 18R-G out to 2.4litres and then turbo it. More power than a 1G, bolt-in, and keeps the weight about the same.

4 grand for a vvti 1j up and running?????
that would be a great effort.....
my clutch rebuild for my 154 was $1400, add the gear box cost to that... and you have almost used your whole budget - and havent bought a motor yet.
you may be able to get an auto vvti motor and box for 4k. but nuthing left for other costs.
I'm not debating 1g vs 1j - i have already done this - sold my 1g (with single turbo) and bought a 1j. but 4k would be stretchin the friendship i reckon.
Cheers
