Default Z10 manual conversion good for z20?

    Hey guys,

Now that my auto is shagged I will be going manual

I have access to a Z10 w58 manual conversion kit...

My question is does this fit? what modifications need to be made to make it fit if it doesn't?

    thanks,
    Daniel

    Depends on a lot

I.e. what version of Z10?... GZ, MZ? What version of Z20?... GZ, MZ?

If the versions are the same, i.e. both GZ or MZ, then the clutch, bellhousing and gearbox will work.

    Things that will work...
    • Bellhousing
    • Flywheel
    • Clutch
    • Pressure plate
    • Throwout bearing
    • Clutch fork
    • Clutch Slave
    • Gearbox
    • Clutch hard line (with some bending love)\
    Things that definitely won't work...
    • Gearbox xmember
    • Clutch pedals and brake pedals
    • Tailshaft

Things that may or may not work...
    • Gearbox shifter position (Depends if Z10 has factory shifter shifter position, if it does it will be too far forward...)

Other things that you will need
    • Spigot bearing

Thanks heaps wilbro, that sums it all up pretty well! +rep

    It's a MZ10 & MZ20 so that is good.

Ok so if i get some measurements of the shifter position and post them someone may be able to tell me if theyre correct?

so It will be down to sourcing xmember, pedals & tailshaft...Can I have my tailshaft modified?

Agree with what Wilbo said. Except the clutch and flywheel!
While they can be reused, you'd be crazy to do it.

Shifter position of factory MZ10 will be same as MA61, which is very much wrong for MZ20.

EDIT: Get pics of MZ10 gbox, not measurements.

ok I shall take some pics after work today...

As far as ive been told before this, 50% have said no and 50% have said yes so I thought id clear it up!

If the shifter posy is different can it be changed or do you need to get another box?

    Thanks fellaz!

I didn't think there were any factory manual MZ10's... so it may not have the correct MZ10/MA61 shifter position (Second most forward).

You would want MZ20/MA70 shifter position which is second most back.

Yes you can swap the shifter positions, the rear section of the gearbox has to come off and bam... do a search, been covered before

According to my 1985 Soarer brochure the MZ10 wasn't available in manual, but the MZ12 was. All the GZ's were aswell.
I'm not sure about MZ11's either.

But chances are its an ex-MA61 setup (as per the install in my Z10)

^ It is most likely a MA61 conversion kit...I'll have to get more details from the guy who got it...
It was gonna be for Mattys old red z10 but now everything from that is in my z20...

I may have to look at getting the R154, the w58 wont like much more than 300rwhp will it :/

    Depends on the clutch.
With a full face sprung organic it will hold quite a lot.
With a puck or unsprung clutch and some hamfisted driving you'll destroy it.
