Default ST162 Fuel Guage (and light)...

Hey guys, i recently replaced the 3SFE POS in my car with the much nicer 3S-GE (as well as installing all the other optional extras and basically i've encountered my first problem.. my fuel guage reads as low as the guage goes, and my fuel light is constantly on (even though i had 1/2 tank of fuel already, and i have since put another 10 litres in... i'm fairly sure this is a wiring issue, however i'd like to check.. does anyone know how the fuel sender works? there are 4 wires...

    yellow green stripe
    white black stripe
    brown

i'd appreciate it if anyone knows what they do

I had this exact same problem after i finished my 3sgte swap into my 162, did you cange the wiring loom behind the dash at all?

what mine turned out to be was a simple case of mismatching wiring, when i replaced the cars wiring loom (engine bay, front, behind dash) and joined it to the rest of the car, the 165 GT4 loom got sligthly differant signals from the level indicator. On my 162 i had never seen the fuel light until i did this swap when the guage read nill and the light was on.

I swapped the 2 signal wires from the level sender (the yellow with red strip and the yellow with green stripe), this then gave the dash correct readings, the light is back to normal (never on) and the fuel guage worked fine. I can't remember how i figured it out, but i remember i put alot of effort into it

maybe the fe loom is like the gt4 loom, while the ge loom is differant.
