really? Sorry to sound stupid, but I did a google search, and I got a firing order that said this:
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
is there differnet types?
Also, your post here says different?

lol, im on the wine again... just copied and pasted a line of text off my site, but looking at it again is a thread about something totally different (issues with injector pulsing m4 motec)
edited and correct

Just realised I dont' need to screw around at all. Coil wiring remains the same, just gotta plug the leads into different spots!
old post diggup, but which is number one?
the one near the oil cap?
and on one side are they
1,3,4,7
and then
2,4,6,8
?
An easy way to tell on every v8 i know is to look at the V configuration of the block and the cylinder that is furthurist forward is number one, on a 1uz this is the cylinder closest to the oil cap,the left side of the car veiwed from the rear, the firing order is the same as an older smallblock chev as in pre GEN3 days, thats how i remember anyway.
I just read your post again and it seems yours has two number four cylinders, he he, but i think your on the right track odd numbers on the left, evens on the right as veiwed from the rear,so if your looking at the engine its the opposite if you know what i mean.
AWESOME.. Thanks mate, that's exactly what I needed. And makes good sense too, the one that's the furtherest forward is the first one..
So it looks like I"m in time, and it looks like I've got the ordering right. So now why is the bastard backfiring and not running?
Ah the joys. :-)
Thanks again mate.
The distributor caps should have two lots of numbers on them, coz they can fit on either side, are you sure they are right? Also are the plug leads new?
Yeah, all new plug leads, and I've double checked where they are going, it's running wastespark now via LS1 coils.
Do I just half the firing order so it becomes
1-8-4-3
6-5-7-2
In terms of coil pairs? I would have thought that made sense, but hey, who knows.
How are you running wasted spark, they are only single post coils, or are you running 8 coils and firing them in pairs, what ecu?You have to work out which pairs of cylinders fire at the same time, pull the plugs and check for top dead center but make sure it is the compresion stroke.
I have a 1uz i am setting up with 8 ls2 coils which i have mounted on the covers but wont be wasted spark.
Cheers, Al.
Yeah, I'm doing wasted spark.
8 LS1 coils, pairing them.
ECU is a Haltech IG5 with only 4 ign outs, hence the wasted spark.
I would have thought that halving the firing order like that owuld have been right, considering two revolutions of the crank to one rev of the cam.
an, I know that 1 and 6 are TDC at the same time.
True 1 and 6 are at TDC at the same time but not compression stoke at the same time, i don't know if you can do the wasted spark thing on any engine or the cams have to have less overlap or something, has anybody done wasted spark on a 1uz before? what is the advantage- i can see an advantage in coil on plug applications as you have removed the whole ignition leads crossing over each other and causing missfires and the like, not to mention the increased coil capacity of 8 individual coils and removed the troublesome dizzy and dizzy cap related problems, but wasted spark i don't know. The farting and carrying on that you describe sounds like its igniting cylinders that arn't ready to be ignited.
