s13 coilovers in the front and the hilux diff in the back should both give you heaps more track but the only other thing you can do is bigger off set wheels

I'm looking at modifying my TT142 to add a widebody kit onto it like the Group B rally cars used to have (the Makela Celica example has been posted up plenty) - so i'm going to need to either get some very wide rubber front and read, or get some rims with huge offset (or no offset - i forget which way it goes)
TT142 already has an F-Series IRS rear, so i don't want to change the diff to anything wider, which i'm sure would be a challenge with a live rear anyway. So basically i'm looking to get around 75-100mm extra on either as a minimum- maybe 75 front and 100 rear if that would make it easier.
I've read a bit on the forum about extra track = failed wheel bearings etc but i'm just looking for advice or experience on what to do. I'm not after anything too dodgy, but i'd also not bother if its going to cost me a fortune. How long would i expect wheel bearings to last if i did the conversion? Could i just get some really wide dished rims or would that be just as bad as having large spacers machined (bolt on ones) - or could i have new hubs made up or use bigger hubs from another car?
Any help on this one is appreciated - i'd also like to get the car engineered in WA - so I'd like to make it all legal, at the very least i'd like to make it legal with different rims/tyres on it, then just swap them after a pits visit![]()

It's IRS rear end so a hilux diff would be a PITA.

Will S13 coilovers go up front for a TT142/TA63? That would at least go part way to solving my issues on the front of the car - really wide dished rims up front probably wouldn't do much for my turn-in and would make the non-power-assisted steering even worse, so would be nice if the front could be spaced out.Originally Posted by Slidin23

There will be track work involved if i go this route - but nothing competetive, just for fun on the weekends. So while it doesn't have corner like a touring car, it has to be safe. I don't mind changing wheel bearings every 12-24 months but i don't want a wheel coming lose mid corner.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

ahh.. in that case, move the stub axles outwards... not that much effort really.
consider the length of the stub axles now, and where the weight acts (centre of tyre)..
then consider how much further out they will be.. might be 50-100% more bending load on everything....
or.. you could move them out, still have good steering, not fark bearings or risk crashing.![]()

So i'd have to make some sort of adaptor from the LCA or something? I'm assuming this sort of thing would need to be engineered? Not really a problem as it will need to be engineered for the 1J and bigger brakes etc.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

well..
do you want 75/100mm on each side? or total increase?
if 75/100 each side (i'm assuming big flares)
then.. maybe you will have camber issues?
say move offset out 25mm, and increase lower arm length by 50mm (different arms).
then you also need to move strut top out by 50mm, or you will have 5deg more -ve camber..
OR, change to struts which have higher stub axle angle (say extra 3deg) and keep strut top in decent position.
at the rear, it depends how the IRS is designed, but you need to either make the arms 100mm longer, or move mounting points out 100mm (or less if move track out with rims as well)
i guess in the end it depends on how wide you want rims, how much increase in scrub you can take.. or if you want to just do it the "easy" way and get silly offset rims
i spose you can just try that first, if it sucks, then do it properly.

Might want to check with an engineer what the legalities of changing the track width is in WA. In Vic they don't like track width changes and only allow 15 or 25mm or something. There may be ways the engineer can 'interperate' the regulations to allow for large changes and this may dictate what you will have to do.

I would look at a combination of wider track and more offset wheels.
Front -
longer lower control arms (a number of options out there, refer to AE86 threads mostly for details)
MA61 struts (different KPI to the TT142 giving less camber with the longer LCA)
Camber plates
MS65 Crown hubs (five stud wheels much easier to find in suitable offset)
Rotor over brake setup (will push track out a little more, look up the Skyline caliper/Falcon rotor to MA61 brake upgrade threads for details)
A set of decent 0 offset wheels (17x8 maybe with a 235/45 or 235/40 tyre)
Rear -
MS123 rear hubs (converts to 5 stud)
A set of decent 0 or negative offset wheels (17x10 or 11 maybe with a 275/40 or even a 315/35 tyre)
You will need to check legality on these mods though, the Oz rules are reasonably tough on some of this stuff.
