Cheers mate, using a stock 2JZ intercooler... intake temps getting up there now. Might need to go rangi on some water injection. Have a big valve and ported and decompressed heads / cams to go on down the track... looking for 18-20psi then. Maybe 6-700WHP is on the cards then. See how it goes. The bitch still tips over just after 5,000rpm! Hoping the head and cams help a little... else might need to make a new intake manifold. Which is a pain in the ass.

You definitely need the intake...even with cams and headwork. They will help but it's the intake that's the culprit.

Easy way out is to use one of the SC manifolds around and just fab a plenum. Basically what i'm thinking about until someone makes a truely decent tuned length manifold for top end.

Believe it or not, the thing hooks up, stays straight if you point it straight... I cant make sense of it either. Pretty sure the work done on the rear subframe has helped.

Yeah or go ITB and make a plenum to suit... At least it holds the stock fuel rails and bolts up to the head. Its sounds easy to make a plenum, but its a ton of work.

Yup, i came to realise that on my 'quick' and dirty short runner manifold. Even using the stock flanges was a heap of work and took approx 16hrs just in welding!!! Making your own flanges is a major but of work indeed.

Hi Mate, nice setup.just wondering if that motor is the later 1uz with the smaller rods as the black engine cover seems to indicate.or is it the early one with the late cover fitted.Other people with the later engine have had rod failure running boost and i didnt see any mention of rods in your parts list.I am interested as i have a late model one in a hilux with a 75 horse shot of gas and i want to go higher but am worried about the rods.
    Cheers, Alan

Justen, think if I still have the interest I will make my own manifold, I like the design part of it... I have an AE85 track car that I am working on, so thats getting most of my attention!

Its the early model motor. So the wider rods than the vvti version. The cover is stock, and came out on the early ones, just that most have been removed since. Id say you picked the wrong motor to FI if not opening it up. They go great NA though!

Might pay to find out exactly what year it is.. just because its not VVTi doesnt mean it has the early type rods (or lower CR)

Cover only came on the later model early ones (95-97). ie the ones with thinner rods.

Have a look at your fuel rails, if they are cast i would think you have a post 95 model engine.I believe the earlier ones have a machined billet looking rail that is more square in section.
    cheers, Alan

It will be the 1UZ with the weaker rods and higher CA

You can also tell by the different/missing steel vac tubes that run around the front of the inlet manifold.
