    Default Spark Plug Gen3 1GGTE

    Hey all,

I can not get the plugs off my Gen3 1GGTE engine. I read the 1G thread and it says they need a 17mm socket to remove.

I have a 17mm socket and it seems it is too small. I have no idea what size it should be. The car is a jap gx81 mark II and its a gen 3 1ggte, but I don't think this is relevant?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey guys, thanks for the help.

Yup, definitely using a deep socket with extension bar. I took out the extension bar to see if the top of the spark plug was coming into the area where the bar clicks into, but it wasn't.

I guess 16mm is what I need! I'll give that a shot. The annoying thing is the car is at my relatives place, so I just wasted a few hours today going there and trying to remove them for a compression test oh well!

Cheers again, will post when I'm successful!

Do you not have a proper spark plug socket? So useful as they usually have a rubber insert to grab the plug as it comes out.

No I don't have the proper socket - I used too. I'm heading out to try it again today so might buy one on the way.

    DRIFTAMK3,
    5/16 = about 8mm. Do you mean 5/8? That's 15.88mm
