Mounting the solonoid on a GReddy boost controller

Hi,

This is not mean't to come across as a noob querie but i have just fitted up my new GReddy E boost controller & according to the instruction manual the solonoid is meant to be mounted somewhere it will not get "hot or wet" so i mounted it inside the cabin, works fine except for the normal but annoying shuttle noise from the solonoid & also some slight fume smells in the cabin when it is shuttling & dumping boosted air in the cabin ..

I was initially going to mount it under the bonnet & probably will now as well but am a bit concerned about the heat under bonnet effecting it long term ... Has anyone had issues with under bonnet heat killing their's ..

Obviously i will mount it in the rear corner of the inner gaurd area & maybe shield it as well ?? ...

Rob, is it a 3 port MAC solenoid? They are anodised blue and black plastic on the other half. A lot of comapnies use them. Definitely fine for use in the engine bay, just not to close to the exhaust, but use your common sense on that one.

You shouldn't really have it in the cabin, not only for the fumes being vented into the cabin but also the lines to and from it must be incredibly long and won't aid your boost control at all.

The solenoids are fairly robust, mount it as close to the wastegate actuator as possible, just keep it away from the exhaust and you'll be fine.

It was mainly a question about how robust are they ? if you read the blurb they come with under the "important section" it actually says "mount it in a cool area" Hence for why i went for inside the cabin ..

I managed to mount it actually just using the rubber piping length that was supplied with it, so no great long lengths of piping was actually required ..

The instructions should really just note that the solenoid should be mounted somewhere that it has airflow as these things get too hot to touch during normal operation so they are actually able to cope with a bit of heat.

I assume the instruction stating to mounting it in a cool area is relatively speaking and means a cool area of the engine bay.

If you do ever kill one (which is pretty rare, I've not yet come across a busted one) you can just replace it with a brand new one from Ford or the like for about $30.
