Default Installing aftermarket headunit into Cressida (MX83)

Hi guys, i figured id ask here since a lot of you drive cressidas

i'm thinking of installing a headunit into my girlfriends cressida
normally i wouldn't ask but the daskpanels themselves look like a real prick and the whole split volume control/headunit looks like it might need a bit of pre-planning.

has anyone done this? can they give me some pointers before i pull the entire car apart and find out its not possible?

    thanks!

easy 1st take off the ignition face that covers the area just above the steering column has like the dimmer and few accesory controls on it. gently pull it off as it only has clips holding it on. take the am/fm thing of with the hazard light button on it, off, it has two screws holding it from below. pull it off take the cables off and put it to the side. take the At surrounding off should just gently pull out, not sure since mine is manual. and then the cup holder comes out, two screws either side. and now you have access to the centre frame. take the top two hex bolts off and the bottom two and the whole tray should come out. ill take some photos in a sec...

as chaser buddy said, its pretty easy and straight forward after you find the 2 screws hidden under the volume knob

Under the stereo controls, NOT under the volume knob (someone might pull the volume knob off looking for screws if you say it like that ).

The stereo controls, can be electrically ignored when you install your aftermarket head unit (but they won't light up anymore).

The wiring from the loom plugs into the amplifier which uses the same socket as other Toyotas. I replaced my Grande stereo with another from another toyota and everything worked as it should.

There is a long how to thread on this on the cressida forum.

Even has a wiring instruction that allows you to splice in the factory loom and operate all speakers and the electric aerial.

The MX83 dash is probably one of the nicest dashboard designs that i have come across. It's so easy to get to stuff and nothing requires force to come apart. The thread that Brad (wumpagrande92) wrote tells all... Follow that and you'll be schweeet.

Remember... to get the factory power antenna to operate you will need to connect TWO wires to the antenna wire that comes from your new stereo. I'm going to bed now and cbf searching but the power antenna issue has been covered on the Cressida forum also. It tells you the colour codes of the two wires to use.

Edit: If you want to +rep Brad, he's TTMX83 on this forum.
