    Default tighten 162 steering rack?

    Hey

Is there any way to easily tighten the steering rack on a ST162?
I just had a re-con rack put in and there is about 2 inches of play in the wheel. The old one was way tighter but haemorrhaged steering fluid, hence the change.

did they even bolt it to the car! 2 inches is crazy, I didn't even have 2 inches of play in my XF Panelvan and that was the worst steering in the world!

there may be a countersunk bolt somewhere you can tighten up but I'm not to sure about the ST162's, just check all the nuts and bolts are done up tight.

Yeah, straight roads are horrible. Trying to stay in a straight line is next to impossible. I look forward to bends so I don't have to work the wheel all the time.

    I'll be going back asap.

rack ends are probably stuffed if there's that sort of play, they're a throw away and replace item

Would they not be supplied with a re-con rack?

Not necessarily... recon rack was probably just the bare rack, mechanics might have swapped in the old rack ends (you'd think they would have checked them but it's possible they didn't)

FWIW new rack ends for these are about $25 a side and shouldn't cost a lot to get fitted... then you'll need a wheel alignment
