After reading this I think maybe it is time to check out my negative battery lead.
Just wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem I did a quick search but I didn't see anything.
Anyway, what happens is the last few times I have cold started my car, it makes a noise like a relay loading up and I hear no cranking. So naturally I turn it off. But if I hold the key in the ignition mode, eventually the starter motor kicks in and the car cranks and turns over. It use to be just a touch on the ignition switch and it would crank even when cold.
I would guess there is a problem with the starter motor, but when I crank it when the engine is already warm it starts to trouble at allIf the starter was struggling I would have thought it would have either, not started at all (cold or warm) or struggled starting both ways.
Any ideas, things I should check, or similar experiences?

I would pull the starter out and check the brushes.
My GTi would start when ever it wanted to, and progressively got worse over a long period of time.
I finally pulled the starter out and the brushes were worn down, so I put new items in and have not had a problem since.
