Default need help with speed sensor

hey guys i'm having trouble getting my speedo to work in my ma70 after a 1jz swap. i used a soarer halfcut and auto box (originally manual) and now i have to figure out how to get the speedo to work. the trouble being that the supra is mechanical and the soarer is electric and i haven't been able to find an adapter for it. so i was wondering if maybe another speed sensor would fit into the gearbox from another car that has a mechanical drive (the r154 one doesn't fit)

    cheers

Some of the later model autoboxes cannot have mechanical drives put in them. Two that I know of are UZZ30 and UCF11.

I'm not sure about the JZZ30, but if anything will fit you'll need an adaptor from, say, an MX83 Cressida or MS137/UZS131 Crown.

If you can't put a mechanical drive adaptor in there, then you'll need to convert the speedo to electric driven.

What do you mean no mechanical option? Can't you pull out the single piece electronic speed sensor and install a speedo cable drive?

The only genuine "no mechanical option" boxes are ones that run the speedo off the ABS sensors....

MX83 does have a mechanical output, and depending on model it either has a speedo cable, or an electronic speed sensor, plugged into it. I'm sure there are plenty of pics but I can't think of where right now....

I'm pretty sure the bolt spacing of the sensor is different to the mechanical drive ones.

ie you can't remove the electric one and just insert a mechanical one, the bolt that holds the little locking tab in is in the wrong place.

The pic itself is actaully a Nissan one, but its the only pic I could find.

What you want is what I mentioned earlier, an MX83 one.

Yeah, the bolt hole for the bracket that holds the speedo drive is different, but you can remove the electric one, insert the mechanical one (the MX83 is the smaller, and I *think* the R154 is the larger diameter) and fabricate/bend up a small piece of flat steel to act as the retainer. The MX83 speedo drive has a slot that the retainer goes into.

Yes, of course you can fabricate rotors and weld bosses for the sensors, but I'm talking about using something that already has a mechanical drive, but retrofitting the correct type of mechanical drive with a minimum of fabrication.
You could also use the ABS sensors, ABS computer and instrument cluster out of the donor vehicle, but that's rarely considered a satisfactory option

MX83 88 to 93 or something like that. Both the cable driven and electronic version had the same speedo drive in the box.

The aussie delivered '3rd' gen did not get the A340E. Only the USDM version did.
