Thats doable, you would just need a front sump for the 18rg.
Dont think they came with one, so custom is your friend![]()
hey im currently building a track ra23 celica and im now looking into putting r&p steering into it.
iv been looking at how alot of people have been doin this set up and it all involves useing a ta23 cross member or a *e7* crossmember and changing motors but i still want to keep my 18rg.
so yer if you know of anyone that has done this can you let me know what crossmemeber they used and steering rack/collem set up
cheers slidin23

there is a front sump 18r that can be found RT model something or other springs to mind.
i don't know if it all fits up or anything, i just know there is a front sump 18r version out there.
EDIT: yep as spectre alludes to below the RT104 and up that had the 18R in it
here is a thread from ED_JZA80 started quite some time ago about various sump configurations

Don't some corona's have front sumped 18R's? I think it's an RT104 / RT114 / RT118

Could a different R sump be used?

Don't forget you'll need the bottom of the oil pump to suit the front sump also. Otherwise you'll need to customise the oil pick up.

yeah if slidin hits me up about the sump i might as well send that as well. I know its not a big deal but how far off would the engine mounts be using a Corolla X member?
if the 21R or 22R sump fits onto an 18R-G then they are front sump in the RA60's from what i remember
- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
ok so iv got hold of a ta23 crossmember and mitche is sending me a front sump and pick up for an 18r
the next question i have is will the 18r bolt onto a ta23 c/m with the front sump set up?
if it does work im goin to put a *e7* rack onto the cross member
The problem we had when putting the 18RG into my KE70 ute was engine mounts. The earlier motor only has bosses for forward mounts whereas later motors have an additional set of mounting bosses further rearward which put the engine mounts more towards the centre of the motor and would make mounting to the T series mounts a bit easier.
Ended up with an injected 18RG from the factory front sump RA63 GT. If you want to see the modifications we did to the KE70 crossmember for engine mounts while swapping over to a rack setup (was originally steering box) then check the link in my signature, around page 4.
