just get a little clamp on air/oil filter like this

G'day,
I am slowly getting my car for rego and i have a few questions (i have done a forum and google search and couldnt find any info)
My engine is a 2tg with the usual twin solex carbys.
To pass rego i need to connect the rocker cover breather to the intake, just wondering if there is a normal spot to run this hose? or will i need to rig something up?
also, i am in the process of building a manometer to balance the carbys, but i dont know where the vacuum hoses connect to?
any help would be great, thanks heaps

You should have two bits on the rocker cover that need to be plumbed into the "Intake" . One is the PCV valve which connects into the same "Bridge" or fitting as the vacuum take off for the brake booster and the other connects to the air filter housing being the intake side of the breather system. It's what's known as a "Positive Crankcase Ventilation system"
I've never bothered with a "Manometer" to balance or tune multiple carb setups. A bit of garden hose does the job nicely and how to do it it this...
with the engine warmed up turn it off and wind all the mixture screws in gently until they stop.
Wind each mixture screw out EXACTLY TWO full turns.
Disconnect the throttle linkages then start the engine, adjust the idle screws (the ones on the throttle butterfly spindles) until the engine idles a little above spec
Using a suitable length of garden hose stick one end in your ear and place the other in each barrel of the carbs and listen to the noise that each one makes
Adjust the idle screws until each barrel makes the same noise and idle is on spec which from memory is around 750rpm +/-50. Then...
Adjust each mixture screw in or out the exact same number of turns (in 1/4 turn increments) until the engine idles smoothest (this applies if you have stock cams or "Lumpy" cams)
Re-check that the same noise is heard at each barrel and re adjust if necessary.
Adjust and refit throttle linkage then re-check the noise if all are even the job done
If you have one checking the exhaust port temps with an IR thermometer is a good idea, I forget the exact figure but between 160 and 180C springs to mind.
Hope this helps

Could you not just run a catch can for the breather hose?
And 4th surfs guide on tuning carbs is stop on!

Caam sadly not for rego. He can do that later for "Normal and track use" but a point to remember there is no matter what engine if it's an OHC with both the PCV and breather in the rocker cover no matter what condition the engine is in whether new or 700km on the clock it will thru oil out of the breather due to the turbulence created by the cam. so once past rego yes the catch can is a wise idea. In effect that's all about emissions.
And my tuning guide? My dad taught me the hose bit when I was a kid. Which when I began my apprenticeship as a mechanic did stand me in good stead but the rest was learnt in practice esp being taught by a lot of old school guys. It does help if you have an ear for music or enjoy your music as it is the sound that you need to listen to. I've had a lot of peeps over the years that have told me that I'm one of few mechanics that can tune Carbies by ear. The same rules can be applied to stock EFI, ITB efi and don't ask how but I can do it with diesels too but that also involves looking at the colour of what comes out of the tailpipe, Much like the days of leaded petrol

Excellent advice - need to hook up my electric fuel pump tomorrow so I can keep mine running so I can tune it, fired it up today with small amount of fuel gravity fed after a long time build up.
Where did you find the 2TG I'm looking for one and thinking I might need to get one from Japan. Any suggestions welcome.
Jake,
The 2TG only has one breather on the Rocker cover (no PCV valve on the twin cam)
From factory this plumbs straight into the back of the factory Airbox. As others have mentioned, an Oil catch can is a good idea after you pass rego.
For now, See if you can borrow a set of the Ramflow air filters, these has a plastic block off in the base plate designed to take the engine breather. If you buy them new, they will even come with the plastic barb fitting to connect it too. Avoid buying them if you can - They are shithouse filters.
As for the carb balancing, easiest way to use a mechanical carb balancer is to buy a twin Gauge unit and like this one: LINK
To connect it you use the fitting location on runner 1 and runner 4 of the intake manifold. You just put a brass 1/8 Barb fitting in for tuning then replace them with ablock off and your Vac feed for the booster when your done.
