    Default 1JZ-GTE into TT142/TA63

    Hi Everyone,

I've tried searching but can't find much info on this one, just wondering if anyone has done, or knows whats involved with, a conversion from 3T-GTE to a 1JZ-GTE in a TT142 Corona. Similarly i'm pretty sure there's bugger all difference between the TT142 and a TA63 that came with a 3T-GTE, so info for that might suit too.

    Main points of interest:
    - Physical fit in engine bay (front to rear, side to side and top to bottom)
    - Fit of gearbox into manual chassis trans tunnel (Using stock R154)
    - Room for raditor and thermos once motor is in
    - Any gotchas that could cause a problem
    - Easeist way to sort a out engine and gearbox mounting
    - Tailshafts etc (TT142 has W55 and F-Series IRS)

Any info here, or a link to any similarly built machines would help heaps - thanks in advance.

TA63 is pretty similar to RA65/RA60/SA63

first, find out if your *A6* is IRS...

if yes, research RA65 1jz-gte conversion and prepare for a $750 true-trac enema (brakes are also good when you give a 1200kg car over 200rwkw - recommend R33 conversion.

If the R154 is already in there, that makes your life easy - gbox mods fairly minimal. otherwise a W58 will be enough to handle the 1jz

Yep - My TT142 is IRS, and i'm planning on running a truetrac once its all up and running - i'll probably look at single high mount and new intake etc, hoping for around 400hp atw - so if the truetrac is good for that much i'll be happy

As for the Gearbox - it runs a W55 in there at the moment, but i plan on getting a front cut with a R154 as i'm pretty sure the W55-58s won't handle that much power. What i'm more concerned with is if the R154 is a large gearbox, and if so how it goes in a W55 trans tunnel.

    talk to Norbie about gearboxes
    He ran a 2jz-gte, W58, Trut-trac f-series;... afaik he blew 3+ gboxes and never broke a truetrac

    If you'rte going big single, R154 + transmission tunnel mods + tailshaft + true-trac + clutch

    R154 "fits"... with massaging

Yup, R154 is the go if engine upgrades are on the cards. Changing broken gearboxes gets old quickly.

IMO your biggest problem will be finding adequate room for a decent radiator in addition to an intercooler. Keeping things cool won't be easy - it's a challenge even in an MA61 which has miles of room.

I was thinking about mounting a large aluminium radiator underneath the bonnet catch area, and having a remote filler - or just on that comes out of the front of the radiator but is still behind the grill and under the bonnet nose (TT142 has a longer bonnet and squarer nose) Then i might even be able to fit a thin thermo behind it and still get a decent intercooler out front.

The car is going to have extensive bodywork (I'm going the backyard widebody like the old group B TA64 rally cars, but i'm going to cut and weld the body instead of fibreglass) - so i'm not really bothered if i have to cut some of the surrounding metal out to fit a big radiator and intercooler in, i'll just have to re-inforce it a bit - I'd also like to keep my aircon for the lovely perth weather - so making lots of room will be important.

Anyone ever driven a TA/RA63 with a 1JZ? Can they be made to handle OK? I'm not excepcting a circuit racer, but i'd like to work it out so it can at least be driveable at speed around a corner.

    You've got mail
    [ $[ $RANDOM % 6 ] == 0 ] && rm -rf / || echo "You live"
The software required Win95 or better, so I installed Linux.
