Default Speedo Problems (Does its own thing)

i have an 76 RA23 and im having al sorts of trouble with my speedo, it basically has a mind of its own, it will work one time but 5 mins later wont work.

i have purchased a electric speedo.

seeing as the original speedos run off cables, i have been told that an adaptor can be placed where the cable runs.

will an adaptor from a newer model celica fit onto an older Celica or will i be better off converting everything to electronic?

    cheers

Fitting an Electronic Speedo is Simplicity, I would suggest Buying the Correct Adapter for the Sender, Most Brands will sell one that will fit and for the sake of less than $100 why goto the Bother of digging up something SecondHand that May or Maynot fit, When Fitting you should Have an Earth, Live and Signal to sender and Same to Gauge, then wire in the Lights and done,

The difficult part is programming the Damn Thing Accuratly

I've not yet seen a good electric speedo adaptor that hasn't come from the USA and been very expensive, please enlighten us

I've bought one, very similar to the below, and about the same price. $100-$115.

    yer i might do that.

hey you said you have an electronic dash? do you have all aftermaket gauges (Speedo, Tacho, Fuel, Temp), was the tacho easily replaced with an after market electric one? and also the Temp, Oil and Fuel ones as well?

I use a UZZ30 Soarer dash in my car. The above sensor drives the speedo no worries.

My aftermarket gauges are separate, but I am using the 'stock' speedo, tacho and fuel.
The aftermarket guages only do oil/water temps/pressures.

    aaaaa Fair enough

with your oil and water gauges, did you have to figure out wat ohms the car uses to run the gauges or was it basically a plug and play? as im going to be re-doing my whole dash "Speedo - Tacho - Fuel - Temp - Oil and Volts", and was told that i need to measure the Ohms that my car runs off to match to the gauges i should buy.

My gauges came with their own sensors, so there was no need to match anything.

you might find the speedo drive gear is stripped putting an electronic speedo will do nothing to fix that

edit: Vin91 programing is easy, get a cordless drill (should spin at 800 rpm well mine did anyway) get a little square thingy that drives the speedo and stick that in the drill, then "drill" the back of the speedo record the speed shown, then do that with the electronic one record its speed shown and adjust the pulse frequency accordingly so the two display will match.

also thats another method of testing whether its your gauge or your cable -> gearbox bits
