Default 1jz engine new weird problem

    G'day guys.

I bought a 1jz recently off a user here. It had been bought originally from an import shop about a month ago and sposed to have been compression tested etc. Well the thing wont turn over.
Have tried turning it over without plugs in it and sprayed wd40 down the plug holes.
    Have taken crank pulley off
Taken cam covers off and everything looks nice.
Taken sump off and everything looks nice.
Looked down spark plug holes, pistons look alrite but can't see the walls of the bores.
The thing won't budge turning it clockwise or anticlockwise.

    what shud i do

not yet..i think you need a hex key to loosen the tensioner which i don't have....I"ll see if i can get one though. Tried turning the cams over, and they seem like they want to move as the timing belt takes slack. So i'm pretty sure its bottom end.

So youve tried turning it over with a breaker bar on the crank or youve tried turning it over using the starter motor?

You just undo the two 12mm bolts on the underside of the tensioner & it will fall out.
That takes the slack off the belt.

Was it being stored out in the weather by the previous owner?

if you have taken sump off the easiest way to diagnose it would be undo a piston or 2 off the crank and see if it moves up and down just don't pull it out then at least you will know if is no rust holding it in place or not

Tried moving it in both directions?

Try some penetrene in the bores if its stuck solid.

Which rods don't have any side play? With tension on the crank, the one or more holding it shouldn't wiggle very easily, unless its a main bearing or oil pump that's doing it.

    argh!
Someone had put the flywheel bolts through and fouled it on the inside of the block. Only noticed they were fouling once i took the full sump off (it was a front sump). The bolts were in friggin tight too. I wonder if its gone in so far its damaged the crank.

All that effin round putting oil down the bores for nothin!

I would be highly surprised if there is any crank damage

    Were the flywheel bolts damaged?

    Ok got another problem now.
I just replaced the timing belt on it and was turning over by hand to check it. Well i wanted to see if its making compression at TDC so i put my finger in spark hole 1 and i cudnt feel any.
I checked under valve covers, and the valves are closed at TDC.
I checked cylinder 3 and it made some compression initially, then it stopped after another couple turns.
I put all the plugs in to turn over and it turns fairly easily (like the plugs are out)
I checked my other 1jz with BHG and I could feel compression across the cylinders except for cylinder 1.
    I am well confused.

It could be at TDC on the exhaust or the intake stroke...

A better way to check is that the marks on the cam gears and the mark on the crank pulley / lower timing belt gear if front cover and crank pulley are off line up with their marks
