you should be able to screw a speedo cable straight into 1 of the ports on the extrension housing. post pics of the housing and ill let you know which sender can be changed.

i have the same drama with my JZZ30 soarer 1J into my MX83 cressida.
i was going to screw the normal type cable thing into the extension housing but that would mean taking out the sensor that send the speed signal to the ecu.... when thats not operational im told the car will have dramas.

    im stumped here aswell.

anyhelp much appreciated ..sorry to jump in on your thread ... thinking u may have the same drama as me.
not having a speedo sucks at the moment....... not tickets as yet lol.

On MOST (Yes not all, but the vast majority) the Engine ECU speed signal comes from the dash / combination meter.

Not directly from the sender on the gearbox.

    Page 5 etc
    http://www.autoshop101.com/forms/h36.pdf

I.e. I would suggest that you find the speed signal output from the dash, and send that to the Engine ECU (In the 'factory fashion').

And use a 'normal' speedo cable to get the speed signal to the dash / combination meter (again in the 'factory fashion' for that car ).

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

I am not the best one to answer this question ..

But what i did in my case is i hooked up a 4 pulse generator onto my speedo output on the box .. My pulse generator came with a short speedo cable & connector that screwed onto the g/box, it had an outlet fitting which i then attached my existing, but now shortened speedo cable to ..

The pulse output from the pulse generator was then routed up into the car & attached to the appropriate wire on the ECU ..but as you can tell i dont remember which wire it was & was advised what wire to hook iit up to initially ..

That was on my mazda runing a 1uz and crown auto ..

Hope that helps a bit ..

But obviously if you can do it Wilbo's way it would be easier again ..

Toyota put the SPD (Speed) signal pin to the ECU on the body loom plug that goes to the engine ECU. i.e. that plug isn't part of the engine loom (that plug remains when you remove the engine and its wiring). The reason for that is that it comes from the dash cluster...!

I can see how you could interpreted this as sending the signal to the dash... but you are wrong, especially in this case as MA70 runs a cable to the dash (Having a cable and an 'output' (WRONG) from the ECU to the dash to tell the speed would be silly...

i.e. (From TSRM for MA70). See SPD pin...

i.e. (from TSRM), See speed sensor being in combination meter...

If you don't understand that is fine. If you want to disagree / ignore me that is also fine

    Just trying to help

    Cheers
    Wilbo

I've seen a speed signal generator circuit on oz-clubbies forums if you keen on building one. It uses a 555 timer and a few other components to trick the computer if you can't manage to find one from the cluster).
