I'll be making custom fibreglass front guards, and modifying my Bomex front bar to suit. It'll be a little different, but the way it flows over to the wheel arch will be the same.

My Bomex side skirts will be modified to step out further to match and the rear arches will be cut and flared out with new steel. (To stop the wheels scrubbing, like if I just used bolt on flares).

I plan to extend the arches out by an inch or so, so I need to find rims to allow me to build the guards to suit.
What sucks is the kit is a one off by Bomex. I emailed them asking about the possibility of another kit, but got no reply (of course...)

Those sportmaxx, and the other watanabe (sp?) looking ones are a bit too old school for my taste, They'll probably look a little odd on an AE101.

I still can't believe you're chopping up a neat GT Apex!!!

But cant wait to see the guards. I reckon you should do the bumper exactly... make it a perfect replica

4x100 and +0 offset rims. Sounds like 80's BMW and Opel to me.

    Not a GT-Apex, a GTZ, this one's supercharged.

Although that probably makes it worse......

I plan to use a front bar like below (a photoshop i did when I was toying with colour schemes, this scheme won't work with rear flares...), as I have one on the car and a new one waiting to be modified, but I'll extend the sides out to the arches like the previous pictures.

Intercooler in the middle, oil cooler to the left (drivers side), cold air intake to the right.

The rear guards will end up as a 'factory' type look, like it's meant to be there. Subtle enough to look standard, but just enough to not, if you get my meaning..

Jayem, I'll have a look. Thanks.

Anyone know the cons of going to this type of offset? I expect bump steer may be a bit of a problem in the front, but what else can I expect?

typical scrub radius issues, increased effort for turning, wheels will hav emore vertical travel due to steering (like go-kart) which will enhance front roll..
and extra stress on bearings, which, instead of being radially loaded, will have more bending/tilting loading.. so bearings may fail faster. same on the rear.
(ie, at top of bearing they are pushed one way, and at bottom of bearing they get pushed the other way, resulting in cyclic loading/wearing of the outer race)

big offset rims on rear of RWD is nto so bad if they are attached toa long axle, but if you have a short stub axle, then you are making a larger % difference to the loading.

but.. just change bearings as they get noisy

Yea, we have a press at work for rebuilding electric motors etc, and can change bearings up to 200mm OD or so... A wheel bearing will be a piece of cake.

The front roll issue, is that something that can be corrected with suspension settings or swybars?

well, when you turn normal steering, the inside wheel goes down and the outside wheel goes up. but if scrub radius is not huge, then it is not a big issue.
with large scrub radius, and large castor, the inside wheel will try to lift car, and the outside wheel will try to drop car... like happens with gokarts... (ie, the wheel height changes when you turn, even if suspension stays the same... it happens with stock setup, but gets worse as you increase scrub radius or castor)
it automatically rolls the car, and is independent of the lower arms, so roll bar does nothing.

the "setting" is to use smaller offset wheels

if you want wider track, move the stub axles outwards..
then again, it may not end up being an issue at all... give it a bash. if it feels crap, then you need to make a change.

Listen to oldcorollas on this one, increasing the scrub radius by 40mm on each side WILL make it handle like arse. When i had my wheels in for powdercoating on the AE92 i was using some +12 offset Opel wheels which, even though they didnt foul, made the car drive like a snowplough and turned in like a tractor.

The Bomex car is likely to either have a spaceframe, or they have shifted the entire MCstrut outboard. Im guessing a well designed spaceframe.

    and 18" +15, +22, +28, +34, +40, +47

    here is the front suspension

Bils shock and hyperco spring, one off kit he got made.
no rubber bush, all pillow ball joints, front adn rear 10kg/mm springs
180mm LESS stroke than a normal shock. a 1G bump should move it 40mm, and total bump is 60mm.

i'm not sure if he had the suspension arm cut and welded to move it out, or if a part was available, but the bits ar mofdified for wider track it seems

cost for front struts and arm bits, $5K and he think sit is cheap....
