is that city of country driving, i get about 12l/ 100k's with a 32/36 and incredibly worn engine.
cheers.
Hey guys, just got myself a stock standard 79 RA40 coupe with the 18R-C engine.
Im wondering what sort of fuel economy i should expect? At the moment i seem to be using around 15L per 100k's.
Seems excessive!

Turbo flutter. : Its like a burp and a hiccup at the same time.
city driving... yeah mines a little worn does blow a bit of smoke.
Hi,
I get around 10-12ltr/100k in Trini.
The 18R-G, on that TRD cruise to Canberra, pulled 10ltr/100k, which is great - but it was sort of mostly country driving.

i had an auto 18rc in my RA28 before i done the conversion
anyway, terrible fuel ecconomy. not sure of figures but i chewed through it a heap

do you guys think ignition timing too advanced could cause bad fuel economy? I wonder what else it could be.
i get about 12 litres to 100k's but i give it a bit. 18rc weber extractors and 2inch exhaust are the mods to the motor
I get 8-10L per 100km out of my bone stock RT132 Corona with the same engine and box, similar weight.
You are not driving it 3km to the train station and back stone cold with the auto choke on every day are you?

haha mate i was gonna ask if u knew me, but then i realised ur from VIC!
I drive it around 5k's to the traino every morning... but i do warm it up for a minute before i leave, so i dont think im driving with the choke on. But i know thats not ideal for fuel economy. I do a bit of freeway driving in it though.
I may have to check my ignition timing as i just sort of did it by ear, it seems to be running well but ill have to check that . Would ignition timing effect fuel economy?
Hi,
What can I say, the RA25GT is a crowd pleaser, and its driver is a veritable chick magnet.... throw in an 18R-G and you've got yourself something that makes viagra look like aspirinOriginally Posted by tomvale13

I guessed because I got crap economy like that with my RT132 when I was doing short train-station runs. Now I mostly take the bus.Originally Posted by Ryan1980
A minute is probably not enough, you'd need 5 mins or more of idling in winter to even get the temp gauge to move up on the gauge, but then you are wasting fuel idling anyway. If the timing's out will affect economy, but there's not a lot else you can do if it's mostly short trips.

Yup idling the car with the choke on gives you worse than eleventy billion litres per 100km.
So if you leave it warming up for 1/5th of the time you drive, expect in the vicinty of 20% impact on your economy.
best i got was 9.81L/100k on the highway. i induced a vacuum leak post carby with a hose and a tap.... i cracked the tap open on the highway to lean it.
town driving gets around 13-14l
