Yeah, the one I got with the engine does not have any isolation... it looks like it was just machined up from a big lump of billet alloy.
I plan on getting the entire engine balanced, but unsure whether to use this pulley or a stock one. Good idea, or not?

timbo, from my understanding of what has been said and what i have read.. the "front pulley has nothing to do with the actual balance of the bottom end. i think instead what it does is its a "dampener" my current understanding (please correct me if im wrong) is that it counteracts torsional vibration which is the crank flexing very tiney amounts and the force from the combustion is transfured to the crank.
this is worse for hi HP motors which have larger crank flexing/vibrations. im sure these would be very very tiney but enough to count. hence why people upgrade to stronger forged cracks etc even when the standard crank would cope with the HP but for the reason of the increased flex its better to go stronger..
all of what i said does make sense in my mind but what im still not 100% on is exactly how the crank dampener/pulley does that job. i am aware that its 2 piece with a bit of rubber in there but i dont understand how that equates to dampening. not where it is. if the rubber was closer to the actual crank them maybe but its not.
can someone clear that last bit up?
The trigger for replacing Ed's JZ was that I found the harmonic balancer had completely sheared the rubber and the outer was able to be removed. Explained the uncurable belt squeal. Too hard basket to replace so we installed the UZ instead.

Personally, been using his stuff for years. Anything from Renault's to Land & Range Rovers to Holden 179/186/202 etc. Never had an issue. His standard stuff is quite reasonably priced considering the lifespan (My old man had one for the life of his Land Rover 1000000K's + on many rebuilt 186's and always kept the same balancer.)
