i recall one of the guys at the February club meeting saying the crank pulleys were different (varying snout sizes) across the M-series.
I thought I would quickly list the differences betweent he 6mge and 5mge crank pullies!
I'm in need of a 6mge crank pulley currently, so I went to the wreckers to see how close a MX73 5mge crank pulley would be...
EPC:
MS125 6MGE-Crank Pulley 13407-43020
MX73 5MGE-Crank Pulley 13407-42020
MS125 6MGE-Crank Pulley Bolt 90105-18003 (Same as 7MGTE and 7MGE)
MX73 5MGE-Crank Pulley Bolt 90105-18002
Notes:
*Pulley ID (where the crank goes) on the 6mge is larger (~34mm vs ~32mm?)
*The belt sections are the same (V, V, 7-Rib)
*In relation to where the belts run if a 5mge pulley is mounted to a 6mge the pulley extends much further outward than a correct 6mge pulley, conversely if one tried to mount a 6mge pulley to a 5mge it would try and sit inside the cylinder for cyl 1 (too far in)
*The crank pulley section that mounts on the crank is recessed deeper into the pulley on the 5mge, so that the length of pulley on the crank is roughly the same for 5mge and 6mge, just the offset if different
My understanding is that the 7mge one has the same dimensions as 6mge, but different belts to 6mge (7mge is all ribbed belts)...
Some pics stolen from the internet...

Umm, Wilbo, why does your EPC say MX73 instead of MZ12 ?

on a side note, 5mge and 5me pulleys are different too. the snouts are different lengths but the same sizes

Urgh I meant to have MX73 as 5mge of course! (fixed now).Originally Posted by CrUZida

I could be wrong but arent there 2 different 5M-GE pulleys too? The early verison of the 5M-GE 82-84 or whatever had a different fan belt setup IIRC so perhaps had a different pulley too?
correct, i even had to go back to my posts on the old forum, but early 5mge's had a twin v-belt setup and later 5mge's had a 5pk belt setupOriginally Posted by HKS_TRD

5M/6M's are known for flogging out the keyway in the crank pulley which rattles around and sounds exactly like a munted big end bearing. This is exactly what happened to my old 6M shortly before I sold it.

There is 2 different 5mge pulleys as described, v and ribbed/v.
The rib belt is for P/s, alt and fan, outside v pulley is for A/c, the inside not sure but I only ran the ribbed belt.
FYI to fit late 5mge into ms55 crown you need to turn the outside pulley off to clear the sway bar.

Heya mate,
I've taken some pics for ya mate
Frist photo is from a 5M-E MX73. I know you didn't ask for it...but I added it for interest, it looks very similar to the late model 5MGE I have.
Second Pic and Third Pic is of a late model 5MGE. Not sure on the source, think it was mz11 or something...
And lastly a pic of the pulley in a 5MGE (MA61). (Unfortunately its in the car so can't take a good photo of it...)
