Whats the probloem with running welded cams?? I have them in my 1G and have had for 5 years, not a single problem. I've also sold 3 sets of 1G cams including Ron's Gem which does plenty of sreet k's every week and 400rwhp, 9000rpm shifts, and no degredation. Get someone reputable to do it(I use Tighe) and forget all the rest of stuffin around.

My engine cost more than 20k to build, without bolt ons, so its no back yard hash up, I would only use the best components, it sounds to me your going to ridiculous lengths for absolutely no reason.

    I've seen this done before on a 3sge.. can't remember if it was a 1. or 2.gen
both underbucket and overbucket shims with grinded camshafts

but I think 3sfe valves is something like 1.5 and 1mm oversize, and longer stems than 4age I would rather use them

you could also cut the valve seats to the the valve closer to the camshaft, don't know how much but.... if you do that you will also get more piston to valve clearance and can run more lift/duration
you could probably get 2mm if you cut some of the valve too

edit: didn't see you where using 4afe head, don't know the valve size they use..
