    Default Installing Intercooler, some questions

    Hey guys,

Spent the about 5 hours doing this today. I bought a used ARC cooler kit for the jza80 tt, and bolt on all fine and all, BUT, the damn power steer lines had to be custom. I used a meter of copper, is this ok? I used the standard clip type clamps, but this was not strong enough, oil started to drip, so will get proper ring clamps and fix that.

Also, I had to rid the stock overflow bottle, can anyone suggest a replacement? at the moment, i have a Mt Franklin bottle there.

    Cheers

did you get the end of the copper line flared?

might pay to take it to enzed/pirtex and get them to remake it in steel and flare the ends (bulge?) copper will work harden and can crack from vibration.

doesn't mean it will, just it can, which is why copper is not a great solution for brake lines either..

Yeah, hose clamps aren't the best solution for sizes under 50mm, they don't have the diam to pull evenly. There are a few other things out there, but the best thing is to get a proper hose made up to replace it. As for overflow bottle, find one out of something, anything, go to a wreckers. Just make sure the capacites are close.

Hey guys, just got a quote from pirtek, to get a Hydraulic Hose pipe made up, with the ribbed ends, will be a max of $100. Does this sound ok??

I paid $75 for about 2 feet of braided oil hose and fittings on each end if that is anything to go by.

Is it ok to just use the rubber hose?? I went to pirtek, and the guy just said continue with the rubber hose. So I bought 2 meters worth.

Also bought an overflow bottle from supercheap for $15.

I wouldn't think there is anything wrong with rubber hose for power steer lines. I have some rubber hose on my auto trans lines so probably around the same temp. Get some confirmation from others first though

There is technically nothing wrong with it given hosing and fittings suitable for the pressure and the temperature. I have rubber hosing on the low pressure side of my power steering circuit, running to my power steering cooler.

rubber hose is used for hydraulic machinery, so hose can be strong enough, however, it is the fittings and their join to the hose that is the weak point....

but i would tentatively go with whatever the hydraulic guys (ie pirtek) say will be suitable for this application (if you explain what you need)

Price seems fair - I paid $235 for 2 custom hoses for my Pwr Steering and that was for the dude to come out and do it on-site..

I have used rubber based high pressure hose (without flared/bango fittings etc) for all my Trans cooler lines, as well as the Low pressure side of the Hydraulic Fan (when I had it fitted - now running twin thermos..)

Supercheap /Autobarn etc sells hose designed for it and it's pretty cheap (about $3 a metre for 5/8's)
