yep, just plate off the ext gate flange
I have procured a single turbo manifold for my 1ggte however it is a ext. gate unit. The turbo I wish to use is an internal gated unit.
Is it just a simple case of gasket + suitable plate to block off where the ext. waste gate would connect? or is this a poor solution?

a gasket+plate shouldn't be any more prone to leaking than having a gate bolted up to it.
Best way to disable the internal gate is to weld it up, I've seen others wire it shut.
Assuming the turbo is well suited toy our application then the best way is to block (or cut off) the external wastegate flange.
If the turbo isn't ideal or you are after the 'best' solution then you should fit an external wastegate, but it will be more expensive as far as your exhaust goes, as well as having to purchase a wastegate.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
Thats the thing i keep changing the power figure I want, both up and down.

Out of interest, what turbo are you planning on using?
I have seen internal wastegate dump pipes made which keep the wastegate output completely separate from the turbo output (flange with separator and 2 seprate pipes that meet further down) - this seems to me to be the 'best' way to use an internal gate, but the exhaust costs are likely the same as using an external gate.
Wastegate flow and design aside, is there an advantage to gating prior to the turbo (as is often the case with external gates) rather than at the turbo itself (internal gates)?

you may be forced to run an external gate due to the internal gate arm not lining up with the rear housing or fouling on a part of the manifold. although you can sometimes get away with a custom arm.
the rear housing position you cant change due to being bolted to the manifold, but the turbo outlet can be rotated to suit your needs. such as: if you find it is pointing upwards towards to the bonnet and has no room for an elbow to be joined on
