you can get injector hole grommets.
sikaflex would work too.... depending how dodgy you are![]()
Evening gents,
So, i have had my recently acquired daily converted to LPG. Its a 5L commodore ute, and i'm running straight gas. I've been given the car back to fix a list of shit before he dyno tunes it, because he said he would be wasting his time:
-New dizzy cap / rotor + leads
-Inlet manifold leaking
-Injectors leaking (pulling in air, not fuel - this isn't hooked up)
Now, this wasn't an attempt to drum up more work because he's given it back to me to fix. All will be easy, with the exception of the last..
Whats the easiest solution to this? I have to take the manifold off anyway, so i was thinking take the manifold off, thread the injector holes, blank them off with bolts? (i'm under the impression injectors are a push fit on the motor side, into the inlet mani?)
Ideas?
Thanks
Bardin

Why not just loop some hose across between the injectors to plug them off.
They are pressed in and you could probably thread the hole and glue a bolt in there. Other people use some metal glue compound but i cant recall its name. Maybe take it somewhere and get the holes welded up with a blanking plate.

Do you know where to get them?Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
Yes, the sikaflex option occurred to me, but i want to do it properly
I assume the leak must be on the motor side, not the rail side - or in any case its not worth gambling on it, i had might as well take them out.Originally Posted by LeeRoy
Don't have a welder here at the unit, else maybe i'd do that myself, i guess taking it somewhere may be an option, except for the fact these endeavours will likely take place on sunday
Thanks for the ideas.. grommets sound the best option that is also reversable.. if i can get them.
ed: This is all working on the assumption the injectors push into the mani and not the heads.. i'll haev to take a look in the morning

tap and stick a bolt in
i'd use one of those threaded plug things with the allen key head in it, wrapped in teflon tape. nice and elegant, not like a few m8x25 bolts sticking out

We used to knock in small Welch plugs in the XE/XF Falcons. Might have to drill the holes out a little.
As long as you're not running boost, they'll be fine.
Welch plugs will blow out if the LPG backfires.
You can use these:
With a touch of sikaflex to keep them in. They are a tight fit, and allow for it to be reversed.
Tweakit.net (http://www.tweakit.net/shop/product_...roducts_id=141) sells them, but they are a bit expensive.
Oh yeah and remember to have a weakpoint incase it backfires and pressurises the plenum. My favourite is to have a 3/8" vac hose leading somewhere obvious in the engine bay and plug it with a small bolt, so that if it blows off its bleedingly obvious.

Welch shouldn't blow out any more easily than those plugs you pictured. We never had that problem in the cars we did anyway...
LPG generally only backfires under lean conditions, make sure your tune is good and you'll minimise any risk.
Thanks, they'd be perfect, but $10 eachOriginally Posted by takai

Reversable is a bonus rather than a requirement, if i have to do it permanently, then thats life. I've pulled the fuel tank as it is.
Yeah the vac hose isn't a bad idea, think on my mums car the fitter left the airbox lid undone / partly undone, is that actually effective? Where do you suggest i run it from?

Bugger, i even remember reading this thread when it was still current.. thanksOriginally Posted by Gavatron
I'm liking the loctited welch plug idea right now.. Particularly if i sort a weak(er) spot for it to backfire out of?
Trying to rep people, but it seems most of you i haev repped recently..

Definately sort a weaker spot for it to backfire out of. Its a pain when you are in the middle of nowhere and a plug has blown off somewhere that its hard to get to.Originally Posted by Bananaman
Im almost tempted to try and sort something out with a 2stroke reed valve to mitigate the circumstance.
