Hey everyone,
4.5 years after starting the project (3sgte into an ae85 toyota sprinter), and I'm trying to get the engine to idle..
Some quick stats:
ECU:
Wolf3d v4
Basemap for 3sgte from aem loaded
Engine:
gen2 3sgte
stock internals
lightened flywheel
HKS 2530 turbo
throttle body (tps + pwm idle solenoid) from au falcon
Fuel:
Stock gen2 injectors
Bosch 044 efi pump
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
Ignition:
Microtech X4 ignitor
4 x bosch coils
Trigger:
Dual pulse input triggering (single disc on camshaft with 4 trigger points + 1 extra for denoting cyl 1)
Hall effect sensor mounted approx 67deg btdc
Progress so far:
Engine starts occasionally and runs for about 5 secs before stalling - lots of smoke out the exhaust (from the turbo - no exhaust yet) and the occasional flame.
What I've been trying:
- Advancing / Retarding ignition timing by adjusting Trigger 1 btdc in software
- Screwing in / out manual throttle idle adjustment screw
What I'm thinking of trying:
- Reduce overall fuel injector trim (I think it'd be getting too much fuel due to bigger pump + lines + new regulator). Hopefully this will reduce smoke + flames..
I've entered settings as best as I can, but the Wolf software help file is pretty lacking in detail.. for example I am not sure that I have set up the ignition triggering properly, I have not changed the injection settings at all, and I've disconnected the idle solenoid because it seems to get very hot and I don't know the settings for it.
Can anybody shed some light in particular on what the following setting are:
1) Input trigger settings:
- Trigger Ref/Sync Mode
- Mode 0+2+4 Trigger Ref/Sync Offset
- Mode 0+2+4 Trigger Ref/Sync Skip
Do I even need to enter settings into these for Dual Pulse mode?
2) Idle Valve solenoid control:
- Settings for an AU falcon idle valve?
3) Tuning tips? How to get the engine to idle properly?
All advice much appreciated! - I'm happy to email anyone my map if they want a look.
