Cheap and Good Install do not go together. A good install takes time. And what is the point in doing a Non-Good install? It can be easily defeated.
i am chasing a cheap auto sparky who can hook at a alarm system in my celica i have tryed but failed, or just looking for someone who can install it.

It's a shame you're in QLD, I could do a top job.
1. DON'T bother with Strathfield, JB Hi Fi or Autobarn etc. they will do a crap job.
2. either find a mate who knows what he is doin and can guide you through the whole process.
3. find an auto sparky who can let you watch while he does it or can show you later on that he hasn't just, for example, put the valet switch under the dash on the driver's side where a thief will look first.
And most of all, make sure you can trust and talk to the guy, hence why I suggested a mate. Good luck with the whole thing, and PM me if you have any probs or if you want me to guide you through the install.
Actually I am in the same boat. I need an alarm hooked up in my 76 celica. I brought the central locking kit and alarm and can probably do most of it myself however, I know I will get stuck with the immobiliser and relay wiring. I rang up a mob and they want 500 to 600 bucks.. Ouch.. Ohh and if anyone has pics of how to mount the central locking solinoids that would be awesome......
Cheers
see i have the central locking side mounted and installed, but its the cross hooking to the alarm for the remote stuff i am stuck with, it was a kit and it dont show where to splice the wire in
Jus interested dude, how'd it go?
You guys live in the wrong state!
if in Canberra it would be all; sorted.
What a load of CRAP!!! on what grounds do you base this on?Originally Posted by scarface4lyf

Most of these guys are extreamly good at what they do, and to have you just say there shit is f**king stupid! most of these guys have completed courses, so they are quilifeid to do there job, and they do this shit all day every day, so i would much rather trust an installer over a Auto Elec to do an alarm system.
Im an auto tech and i would not say JB and Strathfield are shit, but i don't agree on them being better, they do a quicker job, but don't always solder joints thats their down side.
central looking kits are a piece of cake to install, look at the instructions with your door trim off and you will figure it out, they are not hard just take a fair amount of time, to operate smoothly. I know strathfeild in canberra used to quote $80 per door.

Crusty thread, but..
If you need a guy in QLD that does a professional job try Chris Rogers at Audioexpress. Highly recommended, works from home, personal service. However no professional job will be "cheap"

thats why they work at jb hi fi and strathfield. Any thing more than a stereo or a alarm is too hard for them. Im an auto elec and i cant count how many shit wiring jobs ive seen from those places. Who wants to pull down the covers and see a birds nest of wiring covered in tape and modules dangling around?
and central locking is just as bad. No grommets through door jams, shit mount jobs for the actuators with self drilling screws. The list goes on.
You get what u paid for in this industry. I'll leave the rest up to you.
seconded, i had a similiar experience with my stereo. had it installed (after being stolen) by an insurance mob. first of all they cut bulk corners mounting it. basically made it impossible for me to remove it and get it all back together. (although i can understand this at stereo's usually once in are never removed)
however, what horrified me is their wiring...absalute birds nest as stated above, and wired a fuse into the system simply by cutting the constant wire, and TAPING each end to each pin on the fuse...not impressed
i am surely glad i didnt pay them for that job.
and more over, they slapped a stupid sticker on my back window without asking resulting in advertising that my car has a stereo (otherwise hidden in the glovebox) attracting unwanted freakin attention. grrr., definately go for someone you can trust to do a good job.
Would pulling apart several setups be sufficient basis for comment?Originally Posted by blacktopspirit

I've seen Mos' wiring, it's neat and tidy :-)

I'll agree on the JB and Strathfield comment.
I had my RX7 alarm installed by Autobarn in Darwin (Years ago, different owner now, so doesn't really apply to Darwin Autobarn now) and the wiring that is supplied for the alarm for immobilisation is crap (See cheap alarm the previous owner bought and asked them to install it). all the dash lights fade, and the battery meter drops voltage when my indicators are one. The birds nest exists under the dash, and the central locking kit was installed like an amateur would install it.
I have installed quite a few alarms, including cheap alarms. One model doesn't even have a bonnet input, so I was forced to add it to the interior light circuit, as its only means of detecting the bonnet opening. i 'll never recommend or buy this brand again!! I upgraded the imobilsation wires on just about every alarm I have installed to cope with the current demands of the ignition, so there is no voltage drop across the alarm circuit, Solder wires onto existing wires, and heatshrink the joins, even if I have not cut the existing wire by pulling the pin out of the plug and sliding the heat srink down, running the wires from the engine bay through a cable gland or through an existing electrical firewall entry the same way as the factory.
These are the things you wont see in a 2-3 hour install done at most alarm and electrical installers. I won't say all, because there are a few that do an exceptional job, and thats all they do all day long, including complete rewiring of older model vehicles. Again you pay for what you get!!
If you want some help installing your alarm, PM.

Nilezy
