Most of these guys are extreamly good at what they do, and to have you just say there shit is f**king stupid! most of these guys have completed courses, so they are quilifeid to do there job, and they do this shit all day every day, so i would much rather trust an installer over a Auto Elec to do an alarm system.
I've seen wiring jobs on stereos from strathfield where they have run rca's along the passenger footwell and under a floor mat. This is combined with an amp that is not securely mounted and is just in the middle of the boot.

Sure these guys do courses but really theyre no more qualified than you or i. Just cause youve done a course doesnt mean shit just look at how many idiot mechanics are there floating around.

At the end of the day they charge what $50 to do a stereo wiring job? For that kind of money i wouldnt even pull a dash apart and put it back together let alone do a neat and proper job on wiring a stereo.

The point is you pay peanuts and you get monkeys. If you want a good job then either do it yourself, take it to a proper reputable auto elec, and at the bare minimum - be specific on what you want done otherwise what you think youll get and what you do get will more than likely be drastically different.

Either that or take your car to a lexus driving wiring guru.

I didn't say they are all perfect! I think that most of these comments are to generalised, I know of about 10 Autobarn's in Victoria that employ professional qualified Auto elects, are you going to give the whole Autobarn name a bad rep becuase you had to fix a wiring job from one store that did a shit job? there are auto electricians out there that do shit jobs to, it all comes down to who own or runs the business, it has nothing to do with the price you pay.

But it seems some people think there shit doesn't stink, cos they went to Trade school for 3 years.

I'll only partially agree with that. Price determines many things, but a lot is left up to the individual's work ethic, regardless of who they work for and what studies they did. Having said that, the employer is what determines the expectation. If the expectation is just to make something work, then most peoples' work ethic will dictate the effort required to only just achieve that outcome.

Qualifications rarely reflect on how well you actually do something.

No, I have not implied or singly pointed out any name or store for that matter that is shit!! I know of a very good Autobarn store here in Brisbane that does a great job!! They are a family run store, so put pride and effort into the store and what they do. I mentioned the Autobarn store in Darwin, because the same store doesn't even exist anymore, probably reflecting the type of work and people that ran the store. the new Autobarn up there is a totaly different store. Just because I mentioned the Autobarn name, suddenly all Autobarns are shit in your opinion!! Other poeple are generalising on JB and Strathfield, and suddenly i'm the Nazi!!

I do agree that the comments are generalised. I can say the same thing about the building industry/tradesmen. I have seen absolutely shocking work on a house or rennovation, and in general, most tradesmen I have come across do a job exactly as Mos said:

"If the expectation is just to make something work, then most peoples' work ethic will dictate the effort required to only just achieve that outcome."

I have seen builders/tradesmen do very high quailty work. They also charge the same, if not slighty lower prices than the dodgy ones.

Those sort of people don't take pride/reputation/commitment and other factors into account when they do a job they are getting paid to do, which should be done at least to a certain standard. Having pride in one's own work should come first in my opinion.

I'm happy with the outcome of this thread, as it has (in my opinion) gotten the point i wanted across, being that its not the name you shouldn't go to if you want a good job, its the individual or the specific company you should avoid.

I apologise if i offended anyone, it just gets to me when people generalise situations so much that it looks like they are trying to bring down an organisation instead of the single business.

    Hey there all...

i think it all comes down to the person doing the job, nomatter where they work.. as statded earlyer..... comes down to the ethics of the person..

I personaly am a Mechanic by trade but also love the Auto elec side and have done Auto elec work for the past 4 years... i take pride in every job i do, and i dont charge a mint cause i dont like to rib ppl off, i say im pretty fair on pricing

    my 2 cents
