Well before i go mental and say that why the .... cant someone answer my damn post instead of asking other questions like everyone has.........ill explain EVERYTHING as to why the oil pump is stuffed

One sunny day i was driving along in my corona when the oil light came on....i pull over throw some more oil in her as the motor is stuffed she burns a lot of oil, an everyday thing.

I keep drivin the oil light stays on and i give up on payin attention to it cos i dont really care

Ask a few mates of mine that have rebuilt many engines in their time and they said if the to check oil sender and wires, check it all, everythin checked out alright. They also said if the light comes on while drivin after the engine has warmed up its definately the oil pump. I then got a mechanic to take my car for a spin and what do ya know he said the oil pumps ......

I own the gregorys manual to this car, i have read everythin about the oil pump. i was simply tryin to work out if someone else out there has done it, didnt ask for a diagnostic as to why it is the oil pump, or why am i so sure.......

I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION MY OIL PUMP IS F****D now has anyone ever changed this on a 2S motor because i just put a new head on mine and i dont wanna throw the motor AND CAR away just yet.

    Cheers

If the oil pump was stuffed and the motor has been using a lot of oil, then it won't just be the oil pump - the crank bearings are probably worn and the piston rings (if not actual pistons) are also stuffed. In general, the motor is/was probably in need of a rebuild.

If the oil light was coming on while you were diving, it means the motor doesn't have enough oil pressure not that the oil pump is stuffed ....e.g. The pump might be fine, but all the wearing surfaces (e.g. bearings) might be worn to much. The oil filter might be blocked and the bypass valve in it not working - thus not supplying enough oil to the motor. The oil might be so petrol-infused (courtesy of the worn rings) that it's not viscous enough.

I'd suggest you find another 2S motor to replace the current oil-burner.

I'd also suggest you find another mechanic as taking a car 'for a spin' when it has serious oil pressure problems is plain stupid.

hm.. while the sump is off, does the oil pick up look bent or clogged (or does it even use that?) sometimes bent oil pickup will cause the light to come on as well

If you can afford to have it off the road for a little while, then rather than going out and buying another bottom end, you might want to take the internals out, measure the ring gap, and look at the big end and main bearings. If they're all worn, then compare the cost of replacement versus the price of another bottom end. Keeping in mind that you'd want to buy a reco'd bottom end if you definitely want to avoid the same problems. You may get lucky with a random second hander, but it's a gamble. Add to your calculations the fact that you're head is already good for your current bottom end.

Also keep in mind that 2S's are commonly heading for the junk pile. So just keep an ear out for someone who is junking one for a 3S or a 4A etc.

Do ya know the major downfall of the 2S motor? i've heard most of the heads are gone by 200,000, thats about it. And if i was to rebuild the bottom end is it easy to source parts for?

The major downfall of the 2S is that they are a 50kw bucket of junk.

    what are you actualyl asking?

now you have engine out of car, follow the disassembly steps in the gregories manual to take the oil pump out.

then CAREFULLY check that the pump is actualyl stuffed. ie massive scoring, or gears broken or similar. or, that the pressure relief valve has stuck open.

then replace pump, then follow the reassembly guide in the manual....

like i said before, i would be surprised if the pump has a mechanical failure to the gears that prevents it from pumping enough oil, but ya never know.

that it managed to still drive with the idiot light on, and no massive clanging from the rod bearings getting smashed, says something abotu the amount of oil available...

OC's point is what I was trying to say before. Strip your engine down and see what the damage is as it might be cheaper to rebuild it.

Otherwise, if you've got a pick'n'payless near you, keep an eye out for specials. The ones in Vic always have specials on, and every once in a while it's $50 bare engines. That's how I got my 4age. I also jammed a whole lot of small bits into my tool bag, sensors wiring, brackets etc.
