apart from the extra cost of the cut and mounts/sump there shouldn't be any price difference from a normal 1J conversion.
I have read on hear that a 1j vvti swap involves much more $$$$$$$$, Why?
i know about wiring,exhuast,cooler piping
Not including the front cut price, what makes it dearer? I suspect that I will need to change engine mounts and maybe sump to my jza70 ones etc but what else apart from rewiring for a later computer etc.
Why I want the later engine is I have heard they have much better economy and also excellent torque down low and i can get one for fairly cheap

I thought the non-vvti 1j's were the pick because of:
- the vvti being troublesome when tuning for higher power?
- and certain vvti internal werent as strong?
Could well/and probably is only hear-say though... would love to hear more on the comparison
vvti 1j can be more expensive for mods like single turbo, purely due tothe fact that they have different exhaust ports, so a regular china manifold for a non-vvti 1j won't fit.
Tuning on an aftermarket ECU is also more expensive due to the need to tune the vvti (and get it working), which also means you need to go a higher end ECU (Autronic, Motec, etc - which you should be using anyways)
vvti being troublesome when tuning for higher power.... well, exactly how high? I'm making 350rwkw and the vvti hasn't become a problem
Talk to someone on here who has worked with the vvti 1j, like whatthe?
I JUST did the 1J vvt-i swap in my R32 skyline and I had no expensive issues at all. (car started up as of last week. I've been driving the piss out of it for several days, LOL)
The wiring was VERY daunting at first compared to a regular 1J, but with a day or so of reading, it became obvious and not such a pain at all.
The only thing I see that could get expensive is IF you do not have a shop nearby for pipe fabbing or do not have the equipment to do it yourself.
If you need any basic wiring info, PM me, I am no whiz, but I got mine running and getting yours running in such an old chassis should be very similar except for whatever you will have to do for a fuel system.
That seems like a reasonable figure right there. For a street car, making that kind of power, i cant see the 'vvti internal strength' hearsay warranting much truth.Originally Posted by Draven
Maybe for 5-600kw drag applications it might come into account... but who the fuck gets that power from a stock internal 1j anyway...
Draven has a VVTi 2JZ. Whatthe? has a VVTi 1JZ with "a turbo" and makes a bit under 300rwkw.
