cannibalise a broken transmission for the input shaft

A keen eye is all I use these days - make sure the friction plate is centred and then tighten pressure plate - job done.Originally Posted by VasH
Use a set of verniers to measure the distance from the clutch disc to the pressure plate edge at 3 or 4 points around the clutch disc / PP.
Doesn't work on recessed flywheels obviously....

Rep points are for those who feel inadequate in other areas !
Recently I've just gone with something similar to Clint and abently. Fit all the bits and lightly tighten the pressure plate bolts. Then feel the gap between the edge of the pressure plate and the edge of the clutch plate at three spots around the outside of the clutch. Push the clutch plate around until they are all the same, then tighten the pressure plate bolts.
It's worked fine, though can be a pain with 4puck clutches.

Ive got a twin plate os giken clutch going in so yea i think i need a tool, as a few people have said its a pain in the ass otherwise.
Unfourtunatly i tried looking for a gbox to butcher for the input shaft but $10 for the tool seems alot easier.
thanks all for the advice though!, rep to all. I will probably be posting about it this weekend asking for help lol as the install is happening this weekend![]()

i used a socket and extension!
find the correct socket size that fits in your spigot bearing!
put the first bit of clutch over and mark where it ends on the extension!
then grab yourself some tape and wind it around the mark until you get a tight fit on your clutch!
wack everything on and tighten! works first shot!
Hmmmmmm wont you need a splined tool ? IE to keep the teeth on the friction plates aligned.
You may very well get the plates centered but if the splines dont match up the box aint goin in!
Its been a while since i last used a tool but from memory it didnt have provisions to align the splines , just center the plate.

You'll need a splined alignment tool for a multi plate clutch, so your 'universal' style ones won't work at all.
On another note, eyeballing a clutch in to position is possible, but the proper tool just makes the job that much easier to do.
