Purely VVTi function.

36-2 home signal
4-1 on the back of both cams but in different locations to work out where No1 tdc is.
will measure later and report back.
Note: both these pickups on the cams are variable to the crank therefore the ecu relies solely on the 36-2 to adjust the cam positions accordingly.

get over it you 2.
Ed, dry sump it to ensure 0 chance of further oiling failure and you should be swet, but keep the rev limit abit lower than previous unless you plan on running a billet crank designed for the job.
now back on the topic of VVTi
the 1gz runs a 3 prong pickup on the back of the inlet cam (variable) with what looks like an evenly spaced layout ie 120-120-120
i cant see anything down the front but will report back after removing the harmo to find out. i expect it to run a 36-2 but im wondering exactly how it will reference Tdc No1 as i cant see a seperate pickup![]()

Might also want to include which cams are actuated by VVTi and also how is actually works (oil control, trouble shooting info in regards to actually getting it to work) - much like what dori dori had to go though to get his VVTi setup working on the Soarer - link includes some info from Mos...
I have found a general document on the development of the 2ZZ. It adopts a variable valve timing and lift system called VVTL-i. It operates under a single change over point between a low and high lift cam at 6000rpm, with the intake cam timing able to be continuously varied. Further details can be found in the document below (doesnt allow direct linking so download the one with the same title).

Given the waste-spark layout, does it even need to know?Originally Posted by The Real Roadrunner

how would it know where to start firing the injectors and trigering the coils if it cant figure out No1 Tdc? needs to have some idea where it is in the cycle but ill pull the D/S cover off later as the answer may lie there.
cheers
