Yeah, I mentioned suspention in the first post, got that cleared up Nothing worse than a 300hp car with stock suspention. As far as a 'cheap' turbo upgrade goes, I wouldn't put anything off a 180 on it, it's not much of an upgrade for the time and money spent. Look at a T3 off a skyline, they flow ok, but they can be expensive to rebuild because it's not a Garret, and parts can be hard to get (I think the T25s are the same). But if you want an actual upgrade, and you have that kind of money.

Cheap manifolds like this are easy to come by, just make sure the faces are flat and cut the CT flange off and have another one welded on. After that, the turbo market is yours to play with.

How handy are you with tools? If you can weld, flanges with gaskets for dump pipes are about $50 from TurboTech (over here at least) in 4140 steel. A lot of this stuff you could save massive dollars on by installing yourself. Often you could buy yourself a nice MIG and learn it all yourself for the cost of having someone else do it.
    Just a thought...

Hopeless at welding, but a got a mate thats a mechanic that will do it for no charge on the weekend so its not a problem.
Is it possible to use the stock manifold and weld a new flange onto it? or are these the wrong size??
jesus!! so much to do, dont think 5k is going to be enough, get one thing then u need another.
So people, should it be the GT28RS or the GT2871R.
Main thing is i dont want laggy boost, want it to boost quick like the CT26,even better, but keep it up at high revs aswell. So would be best to suit that?

It will be hard to better the CT26 to be honest, it spools up VERY well.

Apparently the GT28RS is the fastest spooling turbo in its class, so it should offer awesome torque, not sure about the top end tho, also it isn't a big upgrade in terms of flow, ~300hp for the CT26 to ~350 for the GT28RS

The GT2871RS offers a reasonable spool-up with the 0.86 housing on the GT4
here is a dyno chart with the GT2871RS with the 0.86 turbine housing on my car

as u can see it isn't laggy, but doesn't come close to matching the low down torque of the CT26, tho with the 0.64 housing it should offer some more low down torque, but won't have the top-end that the 0.86 does, but still more than the CT26

It is all compromises with turbo's.

You could use the stock manifold, just make a bolt-on adapater for it, the inlet to the GT28 series turbo is actually smaller than that of the CT26 so you shouldn't have any issues with it, except maybe the manifold not been able to take the weight of the turbo by itself (stock turbo has a support going to the block)

shit, never realised the ct26 was rated at 300hp.
this whole researching is starting to do my head in
to many decisions, if its rated at 300hp, and the highflow T28 at only 350hp, maybe i should just keep the standard turbo, get exhaust, cooler and boost the living shit outta the turbo.
is it really gonna much of a differerance between the the 2, if i still get exhaust, cooler.
sorry for all these questions people, but this is how u learn

You need to set out targets of what you want to achieve. This will make it a lot easier to decide on what upgrades to go with.

The GT28RS is a far better turbo than a CT26, it will boost earlier and also hold boost through the rev range making more power.

As for horse power, most of that is gibberish to me. all i know is that the is 1.4kw=1hp... i think
im aiming for anywhere up from 150/60kw.
i want the turbo to boost quick,so not much lag, and be able to still boost better than the CT26 thoughout revs,as it doesnt boost that hard.

150-160kw at the wheels i assume?? The GT28RS will do that easy, so no need to go the slightly bigger GT2871RS, the CT26 will also see u to that level (Classique71 has 170awkw with the CT26) however the CT26 will not hold the boost to the redline (Classiques car makes less torque than mine above around 5.5k rpm)

if that is your goal you won't need injectors, std ones will be fine for that.

Yea at the wheels, might be aiming higher if im not happy with that tho.
So how many KW/HP are the std injectors good for?
Also how many KW/HP are the GT28RS good for?

std injectors & fuel pump are good for ~170awkw (~225awhp)
with the generally accepted 30% drivetrain loss that is ~240kw/325hp @ the flywheel

the Garret GT28RS is good for ~260kw/350hp @ the flywheel, which if maxxed out (with supporting mods) will yield ~180awkw/240awhp

As you can see the std injectors should see you to 150-160awkw, u can also have a look at http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm it gives a basic run down on how to get power from the 3S-GTE

Anyone know how long roughly the braided oil/water lines are for the GT4, for the GT28RS??

i'll take some pics of mine for you.

Basically what i did was get a braided oil feed, and clamp-on hoses for the water and oil drain (much like the stock ones)

Basically the water was 1/4" hose, however you need to get a metal elbow fabricated with an inlet for the top radiator hose (just look at the standard one when you take it off for an idea)

For the oil feed, i cut the stock line right near the bolt and got a fitting for the braided lines soldered on, then i looped it around the front of the turbo and into it, ~400-500mm long iirc.

The oil drain, well my original one is giving me trouble, so i am changing it over to a larger diameter with new fittings going into the sump, that will be ~500mm long as well

Water Lines, mine are just rubber hose, i just made sure to keep it away from heat as best as possible and clamped them to the stock locations.

Unless you're going really, really nuts, don't worry about braided line. The factory uses rubber hose, and it lasts 200-000km easily, so some good quality hose should be fine.

yea nathan if you could that would be appreciated man.
So mullet do u recon that rubber hoses would be fine?
Im only going till about max of 170awkw

rubber hoses should be fine, tho i would prolly go braided for the oil feed, because personally i feel more comfortable with the screw on fittings holding the oil pressure

It is a matter of what you're comfortable with, but the push-on barbed fittings will hold up to 600psi (without a hose clamp).
