The crown is full chassis isn't it?
Check the NCOP and see what a full chassis car of XXXXkg allows you![]()
hey guys,
with the celica as good as finished (just maintenance from now on) i am now looking at the coupe, (i
i want old school tuff V8 bogan styles under the bonnet or hanging out of the bonnet![]()
what are the legalities for such a conversion, im talking something in teh region of 460CUi +..... (yes BIG BLOCK!)
no 1j...2j...1uz talk please, i know what there capable of.... but its not what i want for this,![]()
this will all be going into the 71 crown coupe. HOW do the HQ/falcon boys get them road legal?
any help/advice greatly appreciated.

yes full chasis.
its more to do with the original engine compacity V weight on weather or not its legal. i dont think it would be an easy task as most of the hodens getting around with big blocks have the engine fitted and the front of the car build around it (well the ones iv seen) also will the air cleaner sit too high?, how hard is power steering to fit? what sort of chassis does it have, as you will probably need a reinforced full one.
dont get me wrong i like the idea but i think a 350 is a more practical option and they still make good power.
Just had a look at the table in the NCOP for weights and capacity and couldn't see any mention of different regs for full chassis. Only for commercial vehicles and 4WD etc.

Going by the table they provide and assuming you're over 1100kg then for an NA engine you've got vehicle weight (kg) x 5.0 = swept volume max in cc's to play with.

u are gonna be testing the strength of the car with what you'll have to put in with the big block. i've got a pretty good ms65 sedan u could do this with, although the hubs are missin.
not sure on the weight of the coupe, still trying to find it....Originally Posted by YLD-16L
but going by that i would be limited to a 302 engine number with 383 internals![]()
lol, yeah we all get bored pretty easyOriginally Posted by old_school_jap1
plus saying that, this is still an idea only.
a big block's a little more than 'gettin bored'
u'd be flamed for even suggestin this on this forum if you were a newbie
Ls1 = 3jz.
Same number of cylinders but slightly different config isn't it? V versus Straight?Originally Posted by gianttomato

mitche, power steering is easily done, chassi would be strengthened, along with the rest, brakes, susp, diff, driveline....everything that goes with a properly done conversion.....
lol why bother with strengthening that chassis. They are built like a german tank!
You could do a 460 CID small block Chev. Keep an engine number belonging to a 300 od cube chev variant.
properly done = legal?
if you want near 7L, why not go an LS7.. or if you need 460+, just gran a dodge viper V10 (8L)
if 1260, then 6.3L is ok... so LS1 = 5.7, LS2/3 = ~6L-6.2
edit: at least the LS series are a "period engine" for the car
alternatively, you could fit a 6-71 to a 1UZ or 3UZ, and make the cam lobes all different sizes and duration.. that way you would get the tuff american sound and wobbly engine![]()
