I think you'll quickly get over this idea Blake.... kinda like my 13BT KE1* idea. It was just not going to get approved.. *stupid rules*
ive seen two big block chev into MS75 convo's.
real, real tight.
not so much from the headers down. there was room for the power steer and exhaust but above the "waist" was a nightmare. it just looked so wrong, the alternator was where the battery should be, quite literally. its kind of hard to explain, ALL the room that you thought was there, is gone.
but, and i hate to say this, they fit far better than a 1UZ ever will.
the only big block MS75 i ever drove had a 4.9something diff in it. when i went to see the car it had BIG chunks of rubber hanging off the bottoms of the rear gards. after i drove it i understood why..... it would spin both (255) rears without doing anything, like it was idling!! hard to explain but my feeling when i walked away from the car was " youve taken the best car in the world "to drive" and turned it into a monster that must be killed"
like i say, hard to explain, but for all the crowns ive driven this was definitely the worst.
as per usual, i have re-read what ive written and it makes no sense. sorry. um, sorry.

Hi,
I'd like to see it done personally. Once you've owned and driven a nice carby v8 you'll completely understand and the bank manager will be your best friend!!
If you do go ahead with it, don't sell yourself to the devil. Get a chev, don't be a tool and think that a ford v8 will do. 307/327 stroker etc would be good. Also, i would suggest for this you start with a budget of at least 30K!! Any less and your just kidding yourself. Remember, engine, gearbox, diff, tailshaft, suspension, power steering, chassis strengthening, bribes to get it legalised.

30k? who do you get to do your work!
KE38 - 2TG
MS65 - 1UZ
Hi,
you ever rebuilt a v8 before? 383 you would hope for a decent hp but a but load of torque and that's what brakes shit! i'd be allowing 6-10k for a decent engine rebuild. Keeping in mind it wouldn't be hard to spend well over 1k just for a carby and good manifold. Couple of g's on a good gearbox. Then you've got your diff and everything to hold it in place. Chassis strengthening wouldn't be cheap unless you do it yourself but who knows if it'll work. Too many cars get twisted by the sheer torque of a big lumpy v8 without people even realising it untill one day the doors won't open.
Thank about it!

that your 1st problem. YOU DONT SET A BUDGET!Originally Posted by roadkill

ive been thru the conversion deals before, i know what they cost, and the 1st mistake with any conversion is setting a budget,![]()
i do 90% of the work myself, only some parts/modifications are outsourced (wiring)
lol, i want to give you rep for that, but have to spread the loveOriginally Posted by roadkill

Hi,
yeah, i know budgets never work. EVER! I'm just trying to emphasise that this will be a big and expensive project which i'm very excited to see. One thing i would love to see is old schoolness done to the uz series v8s. Get one and funk off all the efi crap. Get a custom nasty cam, nice holly (or two) on tunnel rams poking out the bonnet. Surely could be worked to about 5l. You can get a complete engine pretty cheap (compared to say, a 307) and drive an old school classic toyota. It would be a retro that would have the clock wound back. Show everyone how toyota would have done a v8 back then

And then you'll end up with a motor that drives worse, uses more fuel, makes less power than before. Top idea !
(btw, 4 cams, it needs 4 cams, not a cam)
That said, just get an LS1 and drop it in.

I personally would go the bowite but i just think that it would be cool to see the 1uz taken back to carbie etc

well, 1UZ back to carby isn't going to meet emissions at all.. and given the age of engine would be an instant fail
you could always just put in the 1UZ, and then have a little black box that drops every 3rd or 5th spark or something? that way you would have the roughness and shittiness of an old V8![]()

btw, as of Nov 2007, it was still 5.46 x weight for chassis cars

still doesn't get you an LS7 tho![]()

Blake,
The NSW RTA has no listing at all for the MS75, as such they have no recorded tare weight for them either.
However if you refer to the VSI sheets for the RTA, The guidleines for light vehicle modifications state that as a factory 6cyl with a seperate chassis you can run 5.46 times the tare weight of the vehicle. (being a 6cyl overrides the 1100kg split, mind you its gotta be more than 1100kg)
If your looking at the V8 options, you have to decide if your after the power or the old school. An LS1 is going to be your most cost effective source of good numbers. Especially if you build a tuff oneWe have a a few 408ci LS1/2 cariants we have built and they range from 320 - 350rwkw - Naturally aspirated and massive amounts of torque. All but 1 of them still run on the Factory ecu too
If you just want the old school carby look of things and can settle with allot less power then just avoid teh Ford power plants and enjoy. IF it were me, It would be a Toyota old school 4V with carbies or a built LS1 without a doubt.
And if you do decide on the V8 path, I'd be very interested in the 4M and the set of headers and exhaust you have on it![]()

Just been speaking to the RTA tech guys,
Tare Weights - 1971 MS65 Man = 1320, Auto = 1350
1320 x 5.46 = 7.2l![]()
You will need to speak to an engineer but the VSI does suggest that the weight used is "the original unmodified tare weight of the SEDAN version of the vehicle model with the largest engine available but without accessories such as air conditioning and tow bar"
EDIT: For obvious reasons curiosity got to me and I called my engineer, The sedan clause only works if the models share a chassic code and Toyota's don't. However he consider accepting an official Toyota publication for that exact model and I just so happen to be attempting to acquire one f those at the moment![]()
