    Default Perth: Exhaust Places

    Hey all,

Not Toyota related, but general tech. My ex-boss has an Audi A4 1.8t and is in the market for a custom turbo back exhaust, most likely stainless. Can anyone recommend someone? Every other place he's consulted has had a bunch of bad comments to go with the good.

    Cheers,
    Nathan

Mettams Mufflers in Morley have a pretty decent rep.

Also Kermit Engineering does some sweet stainless work, but he works from his home workshop. Also got an excellent rep will be getting him to do all my exhaust work for pits once my car is moving under it's own power again.

Most general exhaust shops prefer not to play with stainless, and if they do, you usually don't get stainless welds, linished joins, polished pipe. If there is no "off the shelf" exhaust on offer for an A4, he best be prepared to use the services of someone like Norm Butler (Butler Built Exhausts) in Carlisle, but also tell him to expect a 4-6 week wait to get the car into the shop, and an exhaust in the thousands of dollars. That said, if I was in the market for a full stainless exhaust, Mr Butler would be my first choice.

There are "off the shelf" exhausts but they come with Euro tax. I'll let him know. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Hey mate, Steve (77GZE) had his 3 inch stainless done at MCE motorsport in Nangarra. Sounds wicked and the guy is top shelf.

A lot of places wouldnt do it, and this guys squeezed him in to get it done in a rush and the result is great. It wasnt a small price but well worth the money it seems.

Ask steve for more info though.

Mettams is OK, I went to Balcatta today to get my cannon replaced with a muffler and chrome tip, all right job except when they sprayed the muffler black some paint got on my tip and the rear bumper. The tip was also not welded on straight, but not noticable.

from my experience mettams balcatta is pretty average, but as mettams are franchises...different store = different quality. people have been raving about morley for a while, so it may be worth the drive.

indeed, i got a system made at mettams kelmscott and although i certainly couldn't complain about the price, it's not exactly the last word in quality.

    probably wouldnt go there again

i got mettam mufflers in morely (morely seem to have a good rep) to do my exhaust on the celsior, they did a good job/good service and decent price - also if you can get your hand on a card you get 10% off.

mce motorsports just did my custom headers on my supra, and they are awesome.

places like cypher/norm butler, you will be waiting a good couple of weeks. though norm butler reputation is huge.
