Saw a 4V in one years ago. It's a bullshit stupid fit - think all the work of a 1UZ without the benefits. Might as well fit a Rover V8 in there - a lot less work.

Just put an LS1 in there - if you want carbs, you can buy manifolds and COP controllers for them.

NO NO NO XD = cleveland too wide! You're better off with a windsor! The V is closer together on the windsor and IIRC a shorter deck? tho I may be wrong there. Plus there is so much more aftermarket support and cheap parts for the windsor

Seriously windso and stroke it out to a 383. I've been looking into the 400 cleveland which is kind of a mid block for my XC panno. 6.6 litres of DUG-DUG

keep an eye out in the Trading post etc... Chev small block into Crown used to be a fairly common conversion... Buy a rusty one cheap and recondition as you swap...

Windsors are able to be Bored/Stoked to 427Cu In these days... (7.0 litres)

Whilst I lean more towards the Windsor, The Chev would be easier as it has been done to death.

Requiem.... The 400M motor that you are looking at, probably came out of a 71 or 72 Galaxie (they were manufactured after that in the states, but no one bothered bringing them in, because they are not a particularly inspiring motor.... I have owned one, so I do have a little experience in them). it will not pass pollution regs for your ADR27A XC Falcon (unless you run dedicated LPG)... and they are almost impossible to get a 4 Barrel manifold to suit. Was talking to a guy in Newcastle last year who was trying to sell one of these, he claimed it was factory out of a 77 P6 Ford LTD (Australian model Rolls Royce Grille), He didnt know what he was talking about.

Hey wa5, cheers for the info but I've done a decent amount (not enough yet to decide but enough to see that it is a viable option) on the 400 and I don't think its as bad as you make it out to be. No offense intended with all this of course! Anyhoo, edelbrock still make a dual plain 4 barrel manifold (their performer) for the 400, they did about a year ago at least. You can also buy 'spacers' to run any other C intake. They're all a special order out of the US tho.

Considering you used to own one I'm sure you know about all the parts that shared with the smaller C benefit, but the main reason it doesn't have a good rep is because of how low the compression is. 302c CC heads bring it up nicely, I've heard of quite a few guys with the 302c heads getting good power out of them Also check out this link bellow, this guy/company makes alot of performance parts for the 400 along with flat top pistons etc. The 400 is definitely worth looking at, especially now that the yanks are really starting to pick up on the performance aspect off it.

    Linky:
    http://www.tmeyerinc.com/400Ford.htm

How come it wont pass the emissions? Considering the only real difference is the block, I could retain all the standard emission gear, is it just the extra capacity? I'd be quite keen to talk all things Ford 8 with you via PM or msn if you'd like? Save every one on here hearing about it and ruining IN 05 NT's thread

BTW lol on the 77 LTD! I did hear they were in a few F100's tho I'm unsure if any of them hit Australian shores.

Fuck the Fords and Chev V8's. Go MOPAR. A 360 small block would get the Crown going hard.

    Cheers,Greg.

I actually wanted to put a 440 Hemi into the XC. Would be horn, its one of my fav motors, but it'll cost too much and be too much hassle. It'd be my first choice if I HAD to do a full conversion tho!

lol i was under the impression that all the BB mopar were 'hemi' designed? I thought the 'magnum' was just a catchy name they gave the cuda/challanger that had it? either way it is the 440 I want!

Chrysler Hemi V8s (the classic 50s through 70 versions) can be picked by the plugs being in the Rocker Covers.

426s were Hemis, 440s werent. BUT Mopar performance apparantly makes a kit, complete with new cylender heads to transform the 440 into a Hemi.

I have heard / read a few people saying that the only way to wake em up, was to supercharge them... I guess that the huge ports and valves wouldnt start flowing properly untill very high revs when they were naturally aspirated (much like a 4v Cleveland) . Say for example during a Nascar Race.

The Australian "Hemi" 6 (215, 245, 265) was barely worthy of the name... It was really clever marketing however. until the advent of the BA turbo, they were the best six made in this country.
