    Question 1jz idle problem

    hey,

my 1jz non-turbo has issues idling when cold.....

now, ive replaced the iscv and worked out that its not the problem..(well 99% sure, ive watched it move in and out).
i have also replaced the capacitors in the ECU with new items, im confident i did a good job but this could potentially still be a problem??

    idles sweet when warm

if its neither of these problems what else could it be???

    help....please

    update....??

could it be possible that the signals to the iscv are not right. it seems like the iscv wont retract??? i know it closes but it doesnt back off when i start the car cold and it stalls.

is it meant to retract all the way when the engine is turned off? or does it just sit in the position it was before engine turned off (say open if cold, or closed if warm or half way...).

    any ideas?

    cheers

    Hi,

From what I have seen with some of these valves they use a bi-metalic strip
which gradualy bends + closes the valve when power is applied to it.

So if its cold and unplugged, the thing should be open.
(may only apply to the older style 2 wire units)

Some of the newer ones use a stepper / linear motor setup which winds in and out.
If there is no signal / power they will just stay in the last position.

Best bet is to check the service manual and see if you can stimulate the motor.
    and see how it reacts.

yea i think these ones use a motor to step it in and out.

might try find out how to manually check it?

    cheers

    ok.

so ive tested the ISCV and it works fine.

    its getting power,

and if i manually open it and attach it back to the engine it will idle when cold. so its either only closing or not moving at all, thats the next thing to check...
