    Default DEAD ST141........oil pump?

Howdi all i recently put a new head on my 2S-C thats in my ST141 corona and after her coppin a floggin in the wet the other night her oil light started comin on.......i changed the oil and filter....engine is fine until about 10mins of drivin when the engine warms up then oil light comes on. Does this mean my oil pump is shot? in 5th doin 80 cruisin and cruisin in any other gears or idlin the oil light is on, fades and goes off when hittin 4,5grand and higher.

    The engine has done 225,000kms
Any ideas? i heard a new oil pump for it is about $250 is it worth doin?

oil pumps are rarely rooted... they are mechnically connected to crank and they would have to be very badly damaged to not provide pressure.

that you have pressure (at least more than the idiot light) until 10 mins of driving indicates the pump is not totally rooted.

perhaps you have killed a bearing? or missed something in the head so oil is pissing out? ie internal oil leak?

or maybe you left a rag/tissue in the block when changing the head, and now it is blocking the oil pump pick up

drain oil and check to see if there is anything blocking pickup, or that pickup is not loose?
pull rocker/cam cover off to see if something is loose or not assembled correctly, allowing oil to piss out?

Drained the sump tonight n started undoin sump bolts, got no hope in hell of takin the sump off with the motor in the car, and if the oil pump is gone.....would it be easier taking the motor out of the car, engine and gearbox together?motor has only been in the car for about a month

Also couldnt see anythin through the sump plug hole.

    So out with the motor?

    maybe pressure sensor is bodgy?

maybe spring in pump is unhappy?

maybe pickup has half come off.. did you remember to tighten the botl?

if you haven't touched the pump, and it was workign before.. then it should still be working now.

    you are either:
    a) worrying abotu nothing cos the pressure sender is wrong
b), losing oil pressure cos of some leak inside, either at head gasket or somewhere....
    c) not making th epressure in the first place, as either something is blocking the pickup, or air is getting into the pickup somehow.

or d) the pressure relief valve in the pump is stuck open or the spring to push it back is busted/stuck/weak?

or a very distant e), the gears in the pump are rooted.

if there is nothing obvious on the head side due to what you did, then you need to start looking at other causes... first would be to beg/borrow/steal a gauge or sender to check oil pressure again.
if all that checks out,, then maybe it is engine out time?

    good spanner practice

Perhaps checking the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge is in order?
