My '86 Navara has no cat, but it has (had) all the ugly other emmission control rubbish. Weber + welder (for egr stuff) and all is good...

If you've got the budget for it and do your research then there's no end to what you could do with your Lux.

What point is that? Mos' stock vvti 1UZ makes over 200rwkw. There aint many (if any) stock 308s around that can boast that....

it's currently full of a warmed over 308...
a healthy warmed 308 should make 200rwkw.. a serious one, much more..

25% more capacity - that is all.

thats funny, I would have thought the HSV 308s would have been classed as "warmed" and they made 185 at the fly?

I'm talking internally stock emgines here

archaic design - that is all

Not disagreeing, all other things being equal capacity wins every time. An internally stock UZ with bolt ons makes over 400rwkw easy though, costs $800, is smooth and refined and will kill any 308 on economy...not to mention lighter. The poor 308 just ain't in the running.

If it came with an LS1 or better yet an LS2 i'd weld the bonnet shut and tell you all it was a UZ

And there's the operative statement. Equal, they aint.

    A 1Uz a 308 is not. An LS1 a 308 is not.

My pride and joy when I was 18 was a VK calias with an L34 spec 308 with all the shit and a 650 double pumper. Ran a mid 14 on the quarter (respectable 14 years ago)

The power numbers are a small part of the story. A 308 will produce power at low revs, without any lag, precisely when you need it around town..

And a 1UZ doesnt? Ask Mos to discuss the torque curve...

Archaic design isn't always a terribly bad thing.. a LS1 pushrod piece of shit that it may be, will still toast a 5.4L ford boss motor..

and the HSV 185's were 304's, and not really warmed at all..

sne.. i don't really care.. i was thinking about LS1-ing my lux because im bored of the 1JZ.

And on a side note, some would argue that its archaic to have a cast iron block.
