how long since the twin plate was installed? dare I ask if you checked if the pedal/slave throw was checked/adjusted before you ripped youre m/c apart?
Hey everyone
Ive been having troubles with down changing on my jzx81 as it seems the clutch isnt quite engaging enough its fine with the up changes but shit on the downs its a twin plate clutch and only gets the jangle happening when my foot is hard to the floor so Ive put it down to a dodgy clutch master i pulled it out today and it seems to be missing rubber around the shaft im not sure (im pretty sure its supposed to be but other peoples knowledge would be great) if its supposed to be a sealed unit or not so ive posted a pic here any advice would be wonderful.
Cheers
Ben

I dont know, it was installed in japan and ive been having troubles with it since it was here is there a way to adjust the slave pedal throw??? sorry for the noob question but i really dont know and would like to learn![]()
No that rubber boot shouldn't "seal" really, most of them have a small vent hole. Have you adjusted the slave shaft length?
mmm no i havent haha I didnt know ya could, do you just pull the rubber boot back and theres an adjustment under there?? sorry very noob when it comes to toyota/clutch setup I must say i do love it tho![]()

You can adjust at the pedal end, and the slave end... There is usualy two bolts, and as you tighten/loosen them, the shaft grows longer/shorter...
The longer it is, the longer your clutch throw....

EDIT:
Have been told, with twin plates, you want the throw as short as possible, i.e. toward the bottom of pedal feel so that you dont 'overthrow' the thrust bearing...

hrmm interesting cheers for ya help so far guys im pretty certain that this is the right track i was managing 3rd gear drift with no slip at all so im certain the clutch isnt at fault ill jack the car up tomorow and adjust the slave as instructed?? im still a bit unsure about the master it does look like some rubber has broken off the seal there.
cheers so far

As said you don't want to 'over throw' the clutch, so keep that in mind when adjusting the pedal.
You want the clutch to disengage (start rattling) when the pedal is quite close to the floor, not right at the top...
I'd start adjustment at the master cly end, have a look at the section that connects to the pedal, there is another nut that is used to 'lock' the shaft to the 'U' bit that attaches to the pedal.
When you undo the lock nut you can then turn the shaft to adjust the length of the MC rod connected to the pedal...and hence adj the system...

So what happens to the thrust bearing and/or clutch if you have too much throw and disengagement right at the top?

Clutch may wear out prematurely since it might not be fully disengaging and end up slipping

You can overthrow the pressure plate diaphragm and fook it.Originally Posted by LeeRoy

So pivot it past a point where its not meant to go to? It cant do anything to the bearing though can it? - my mind tells me no.Originally Posted by wilbo666

Indeed, bearing should be fine.Originally Posted by LeeRoy
